Thanks to Daisy Princessfor alerting me about it I was able to meet Francesca Lia Block and witness the magic of the novel "Weetzie Bat" come to life a few Sundays ago at Book Soup in Hollywood. I parked in the old Tower Records parking lot ($5 for parking all day? YES!) Then I crossed the street with this lady who asked me if I was going to the ( Read more... )

Aww. Thanks Rai! I was about to alert to you this posting since Ash said you'd love to hear it (which is why I ended up posting it to LJ)

That's really sweet of you to say. I got that from one of my mom's friends who told me I had "faerie energy" when I was a young girl. I bet you do too! ;)

By the way. I'm taking that workshop of hers next nextweek. I'm so beyond stoked!!

Reading a review of Weetzie Bat, and these lines jumped out at me as Drew always refers to Flower Films as her family, and I wonder if she's ever read Weetzie Bat or Francesca's stories? Quick, someone send the screenplay to Flower Films, haha!

"While escapsm might not sound like the healthiest habit for the young adult set, Weetzie Bat is a refreshing, delicious mirage for those who need it. If there is indeed an underlying message to the story, it would be: create your own family, if you lack the luck of being born into the family you need, you can find a new one. This is precisely the message needed to be sent to those dissociated, daydreaming 13-year-olds."

That's so funny you would mention that because while listening to the reading I was thinking about "Whip It" and it reminded me of "finding your tribe". I wouldn't be surprised if Drew has read or at least heard of Francesca.. I mean Weetzie Bat came out when Drew was a teen. Haha, wouldn't it be rad if Flower Films got involved with it??! To dream.... :)

Thank you soooo much for typing this up! It was way more information than I could find anywhere else! I'm so glad you ended up going. It seriously sounds so incredible & magical. I love how they included music, geeeez! I saw pictures of the 4 main cast members, they were spookily accurate with their looks! Ahhhh. What a rad experience!
