From all indications the plantings survived the winter. Horseradish will grow and ripen further, raspberry bushes have multiple leaves, the vining rose also leafed out some more. Tulips are up, as are grape hyacinths and the pink honeysuckle bush has many flower buds. Even the the plum tree out front has a few white flowers in its first year. ( Read more... )

I say thank god it's raining, although I believe I'm a minority of one on the subject around here.

I'm with you on this one. I'm very happy to see the rain. After the fairly dry winter we've had, brush fires are a big danger. Given that my house is surrounded by some 100+ acres of woods and we did have a brush fire last summer, I'm really a big rain fan. Also, the rain we had this past weekend let me sit around like a bump on a log and not feel guilty about wasting a beautiful day.

It rained just enough to tamp down my fire hazard worries and we're due for a little more in a few days, I guess. Lots of dry, crisp leaves out there that I haven't gotten around to composting. I see a job coming up.

With you on the rain portion -- I'm hoping the border flowers I planted will germinate and *maybe* maybe actually poke through the Lilly of the Valley of Doom.

raspberry bushes have multiple leaves,

Um, will terrorize neighbors for fresh raspberries? No. Um ... I can do better. I will come and taunt your daughter for raspberries --- no wait, that's only fun for me. Lesse... I will exchange random, smalll, tasteful artworks for fresh raspberries? ... eh, we'll go with that one.

Wrong kind of exercise I guess.

Amen! I found myself trying to figure out how with more exericse I wound up with more of a "love spare-tire" in the ladies restroom this afternoon. I'm just glad no one walked into the library restroom while I was holding up my shirt and bending from side to side.

Hm, taunting my daughter. Very, very tempting. But small, tasteful artworks for raspberries, the perfect exchange. No losers.
