ever in your favor

Just got back from the movie. Went to the earliest show this morning, since because of work, I wasn't able to see it before.

I think I have finally stopped shaking.

It was a tremendous film, and one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I have ever seen. Nothing gratuitous, nothing exploitative (which was a big worry of mine going in), deeply poignant, beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted. No matter who were your casting choice worries (mine was Woody Harrelson as Haymitch), they all deliver.

The contrasts are the things that stick out in my mind. The stark, barren, old-fashioned districts, next to the brazen, sumptuous, overdone Capitol. Katniss fleeing from firebombs, while state-of-the-art technicians in a spotless room order more thrown gleefully. And the sound--so much of the film is so quiet that absolutely every time a cannon booms, I jumped in my seat. Which is exactly the way it should be. And despite the fact that I was sobbing at the time, I loved that they jumped from Katniss' salute to Rue, to the beginning of the Uprisings. Brilliant tie-in to the rest of the story.

I have more thoughts, I just can't translate them. Suffice it to say, you should see this movie now. If you haven't already.
