Sixth Night - Part 8

The wolf was soon out of the city, the bag with the statutte clamp carefully in his jaw as he weaved through the country side

As it often did, the air moving quickly past him helped to clear Hansel's mind, fogged both from the innocent blood and the heady incense. The brightness of the moon, however, kept distracting him.

The vampiric wolf stopped, slowly trotting into the castle, keeping himself on high alert in case of more unpleasant surpries

The boy didn't notice when they reached the castle. If they were to be attacked, he'd be an easy target.

The wolf places the bag down before he warped back into his normal form

Hansel... slid off his back. When he hit the ground, he came back to his senses. "S-sorry..."

"What are you apologizing for?"

"I wasn't paying attention."

"It is fine, you had quite a lot on your mind." He brushed it off.

"I guess..." He didn't sound very convinced.

He picks up the figurine. "You seem to like cats."

"Well, yeah... Momoe-san always had cats around the shop, and then our code names were cat breeds, too."

The vampire nodded as he inspected the sculpture, leading Hansel to yet another part of the castle

"Where are we going, Dracula-sama?"

"I am storing this for now."

"Oh..." He glanced around, noting where things were.

The corridors changed slowly, the stones becoming marble, with columns carved into classical Greek figures, it looks nicer but there's still that scent of danger.

Hansel was in awe. "Wow..." he muttered.

The vampire smiled a little. In the corner of Hansel's eyes, he may see what look like a maid scurry away

"Who was that?" He hadn't seen anyone other than himself, his Sire, and the Librarian, in the time he'd been there. Well, other than the Hunter and the werewolves, of course.

"We call them Persephones." The vampire answered

"Persephones?"

"They are a kind of demon familiar," The man started as he went up a flight of stairs

"Oh..." Hansel had to pick up his pace to keep up with the taller Vampire.'

"Oftentimes they are used for domestic purposes," He stopped in front of large iron doors with dragons etched into the frame

"So they do the cleaning and stuff?" He'd been wondering who tended to every thing.

"Yes."

"Aaa." He waited for Dracula to open the doors, impressed with the etching.

With what looks like a light brush of his fingers, he pushes the door open - and reveals a large, spacious room filled with glittering jewelry hung on the necks of statues of all shapes and sizes, ranging from prehistoric Venus figures to a sculpture from the early 20th century depicting a being from beyond the stars

"Wow..." The boy wanders into the room, looking around at everything in awe.

"Every item in this room has a magical power."

He looked around more, slightly fearful. He had much respect for anything with magic, having enough trouble with the one basic spell he had.

Dracula examined the room and found a spot to rest the cat figurine

"If the figurine has power, what do you think it might be?"

The vampire pondered the question as as he sat it down. "From my knowledge, it would have boons related to felines as well as hunting."

Hansel found himself his own seat, nodding.

"And with that, I shall research it's spells to full unlock it's ability."

"What does the other stuff in here do?"

"It would take years to catalogue them all," He points to the eerie noneculdian creature. "It is part of a ritual to summon an elder god," The vampire then gestured to a Mayan throne, "That is a trap - anyone who sits in it will be unable to remove themselves until all their blood has been drain away into the stone cups."

The fledgling shivered at the throne.

"And that bracelet will turn it's wearer into a dragon."

Hansel's eyes widened. "Really?"

"Indeed, but it is much harder to turn back from being a dragon."

"I had enough troubles with a wolf..."

"That can be overcome with practice."

"Maybe..." It still bothered him.

He saw that. "Perhaps a bat," Dracula mused out loud as he steps out of the treasury

"Are they easier?" The boy followed behind him.

"It is harder to change into, but their emotional level is simpler, easier to control."

He nodded. Even though he was behind the man, he knew he would sense it.

The maid could be seen more visibly, her face rather like a doll's as she polishes a column depicting Atlas

Hansel couldn't help but stare. She was nothing like he'd seen before.

When the familiar sense the stare, she turns and curtsy, her face remaining blank

He bowed politely in return.

The familiar then scurries away, as not to disrupt them

The boy watched after her, before turning to catch up to his Sire.

"Persphone is one of the least dangerous of the creatures."

"She didn't seem very dangerous."

"Unless you get in the way of her chores." He chuckled.

"Yeah, no thanks."

The Vampire lead them back down into the crypts. "You will learn more about the creatures that roam the halls soon enough."

"I will?"

"Yes, you will need to understand their habits and action."

"Why is that, Dracula-sama?" Conflicting thoughts warred within him, the part of him that was true to his own nature, and the part of him that reminded him that he was just another creature in the castle, under the Vampire Lord's control.

"You must be ready for any and all possibilies."

"What possibilities?" He couldn't see how he would need to do something that Dracula did.

"If I were not here if more competent hunters were to arrive."

Hansel shivered at the thought of more hunters.

The vampire noticed, good - that's a reason he should have. "You should turn in, I have a few more things to attend to."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes," Dracula nodded

"Alright." Hansel started toward the Crypt, pausing looking back before he was out of sight.

The vampire watches him leave and heads to the belltower.
