It will be very cheering to use the loo without being attached to someone. I suppose I should just be glad he isn't the sort to order me about even though it may, just slightly, be partially my fault we're attached. Due to this whole accident, and being a fumble-foot of course.

With everyone attached like this, the school is like a nest of runespoor

It's only by the shoulder. The blasted bed wasn't quite comfortable lying side by side when I nearly tumbled off and took him with me, but I'm not as poor off as some.
