Rewatching season 11 of The X-Files

My Struggle was just urgh such a bad way to start the season off unfortunately. Lol at the super unnecessary Mulder voiceovers, like you really don’t think you couldn’t have just shown him spotting that someone was tailing him, you have to have a whole voiceover of his inner thoughts to tell us what’s happening?! The car chase scenes felt weirdly ( Read more... )

Thanks for watching it so I don't have to.

Seriously, the awfulness that my once-favourite show became is just too unreal.

It does seem like nearly everyone stopped watching after season 10 :/ For me there were still a few worthwhile episodes in those seasons though, especially the two Darin Morgan ones

I thought season 11 was so much better than season 10! The ending though...I remember thinking "Okay, that's it? Everyone dies and the show is over?"
I don't remember that much from the plot of The Lost Art Of Forehead Sweat, only that I liked it. Rm9sbG93ZXJz was really well done, but at the same time, I can understand how people might not enjoy it.

I often find that with Darin Morgan episodes as well lol, that it’s more all these random funny moments that stick out, while it’s harder to keep track of the actual plot. TLAOFS was basically just all about how we remember things differently and have different versions of the ‘truth’. They introduced Reggie as this supposed partner of Mulder and Scully who had all these versions of stories they’d been chasing up together XD ( ... )

I, too, don't get the outright HATRED for the revival. Overall, I found them to be mediocre but there's some good stuff in there. You're on the money that people seem to have too much nostalgia for the old school series. Even peak XF (IMO S5-S7) had some clunkers in there. Perhaps it's because I was never invested in the myth-arc or shipping parts of it. I was all about the MOTW, which kids these days call "filler". The myth-centered eps or anything around Mulder's sister or Scully's quasi-children were boring to me.

I can see some dislike for that because it's a bit easier to dismiss the not fantastic ones when there are 22-24 a season as opposes to 6 or 10. It feels like more potential was wasted. Plus, I think reboots/revivals naturally bring up negative feelings nowadays. I think some folks thought CC might try to fix the mythology and instead made it even worse, so if you were invested in that (god knows why :P) then it's going to piss you off.

If anything I remember critics being fairly positive and getting my hopes up when they were talking about the first five episodes (other than the opener) being a real return to form, and the general vibe in the beginning was that it was a great improvement on season 10, but the cliffhanger at the end seemed to completely kill all that. Now you only hear it discussed in terms of critics dismissing the entire revival as a waste of time, and that still seems a bit harsh to me, but then Gillian Anderson herself also seems fed up and disappointed, and perhaps that fed into the general feeling of disillusionment as well? But I still say that most of the episodes weren’t that bad when you go back and watch them, although I agree that the hit to miss ratio is a lot more obvious when you’re dealing with a limited series, that was especially apparent with season 10 where the final two CC episodes really killed all momentum there. But for me season 11 has a decent enough mix, heck even Kitten is more about my personal taste as I’ve noticed that ( ... )
