Just watched BirdBox on Netflix

I really enjoyed it actually! I was surprised at how many changes they made from the book though, for some reason I had it in my head that it was going to be a pretty close retelling of it. One thing that stood out to me was I remember (although disclaimer that it has been a few years since I read it now!)( Read more... )

I'm not surprised since this was kinda expected, but it's still disappointing nonetheless. I just hate that this happened, whether it's because of the competition between Netflix and Disney+ or just the situation with more and more streaming services popping up competing against each other creating problems of ownership and whatnot.

It seems like a no-brainer if they want goodwill and a big launch for expanding Hulu internationally

It makes sense. I mean,Marvel's Runaways has been doing well on Hulu, and if they can get Jessica Jones and the rest of them on Hulu as well, it can definitely do well for their business. Plus, Disney partially owns Hulu too, right? So it wouldn't have to completely dumb down the shows for a more "family friendly" approach like it would be on Disney+. I don't know, I don't want to get my hopes up but at the same time, with all the talk surrounding it, I want to be hopeful because how all of this has been handled by Netflix over the last several months has been such a clusterfuck that these shows deserve ( ... )

Same :(

And yeah I wasn’t all that hopeful at first because it seemed unlikely that anyone else could pick the shows up if Netflix still owns the rights to the early seasons, but that note suggest that discussions could be ongoing, so it’s hard not to take a little hope from that. I definitely think it would really benefit Hulu now that more streaming sites are wanting to create their own shows, instead of relying on licensing other networks content. Not that the Marvel would be complete originals for them obviously, but acquiring them would still give them a real boost. The Handmaids Tale, Runaways, Veronica Mars, and maybe Castle Rock are their only originals that I can think of that have received much attention so far, so it would really benefit their catalogue to pick up Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and maybe launch a new show from Luke Cage/Iron Fist

I actually read about The Punisher cancellation one week after the release of season 2,it just wasn't officially confirmed then. I think I said it before, but both shows have probably been cancelled already last year when they started with Luke Cage (I guess Daredevil was as well before season 3 started, now that I think back on it. They didn't promote it as much as at the beginning).

with Netflix not even having the decency to wait for JJ’s third season to even air first

I wouldn't really call it not having the decency? I dunno, they probably figured that everyone saw where this was heading and that JJ wouldn't be the only Marvel show left so they just announced it all in one big swoop now instead of getting people's hopes up?

I definitely noticed they didn’t bother promoting Daredevil at all, interestingly they did seem to make a bit more effort with The Punisher, but I’m not sure why when clearly it was always going to be cancelled as well however successful the second season was. Maybe that was just in response to people complaining about the lack of attention they gave Daredevil?

And true, it just seems very cynical to me to announce the cancellation of a show before it’s even had the chance to air, I’ve been very unimpressed at how Netflix have handled the Marvel shows :/

I knew it was coming but I’m really sad that Netflix cancelled all of their Defenders shows. Especially JJ as it was my favorite. I heard that they will still air season three though so let’s hope that happens.

Jessica Jones should be airing soon is my understanding, it’s already filmed and ready to air I think, but it is really messy that Netflix decided to cancel *all* of the shows. I can only hope that another streaming service will be able to come to some arrangement with Netflix so that they can still produce more seasons :/

It’s crazy to me that they decided to cancel them all, admittedly I’m not an expect on how business works, but it would have made sense to me to at least let Daredevil have the fourth season that everyone was expecting first. Even if they wanted to cancel most of their Marvel line-up eventually, it wouldn’t have hurt them to at least give some of the shows a heads up/confirmed final season, that way they at least wouldn’t end on cliffhangers with the expectation of more episodes. That’s more of a network strategy, Netflix always used to be the exact opposite of that when it came to wanting a story to play out to its conclusion

My husband and I loved the first season of JJ. We never got around to watching season 2 though. I heard a lot of mixed reviews.

I haven’t seen the second season either, it did seem like it got very negative reviews though, so it will be interesting to see what the response is to the third season
