It is great. Love that I can choose how much I buy, and that I'm not throwing out tons of plastic wrappers. We have a shop like this in the city, but it's a bit tricky to pack, and then you have to drive somewhere else to get the rest of the things you need that you can't buy at these stores. The one in the city also has bamboo toothbrushes and things like that, as well as local free range meats.
We have three such places all within twenty minutes of where I live now. But I think my area is particularly known for Greenies. Suits me! It makes the whole shopping experience feel far more special - leaving the store with little cloth bags filled with produce, and containers that have been refilled. Makes me treasure each item a bit more. I imagine I am my grandmother back when she was young, before we lived in such a throw-away society. It is a great feeling. All I need now is a bicycle with a great big basket and the romance will be complete.
There was a place like this in Portland, Maine....where I used to live. I loved it. You could buy only as much as you wanted or needed instead of big packs. I liked that herbs were sold this way as well, for that very reason.
Exactly. I love my little baggie of dried cranberries. The perfect amount for the week. And I love having someone to support besides the big supermarkets. There is a lot of local produce that they are selling too, so it feels much more commuity-minded. I will be returning every week for my groceries. All I need to do now is find a butcher nearby...
That is the ridiculous part, how the prepackaged things tend to be cheaper. It's all rather messed up. It's not as though there ought to be any reason why wrapping a thing in packaging ought to make it cheaper. It's like buying the cheaper light globes that blow quicker, but if at each moment you can only afford the cheaper ones...
