Having finished by marking quota of the day, I watched the last episode of Hannibal.
I have mixed feelings about that one...
On the one hand, Lawrence Fishburne was terrific and owned the episode. Every scene he was in was great thanks to his amazing performance. Gina Torres is a lucky woman.
I also liked the opening scene, quite horrific and at the same time, the most "refreshing" strip-tease ever!
And Chilton...Chilton is just so fun to watch. Of course he copyrighted "Hannibal the Cannibal"!
On the other hand, I couldn't care less about Verger's storyline (and that surgery scene was just superfluous and gross!). He looked a lot like Gary Oldman in Hannibal. It seems that the series is going to imitate the film there.
And I am not a big fan of Alana's new storyline either...which is obviously leading to her pairing up with Margot. I just don't buy her transformation at all, not to mention her incredible healing abilities. As for the potential sapphic relationship it seems mostly gratuitous. But I guess they don't know what to do with her character anymore, and they can't pair up with Will because his fate is already written and he will marry someone else...
Will's state is more in character but he's annoying me more and more with the passing of each episode. Once upon a time I might have been giddy at hearing his near admitting to loving Hannibal when he told Jack he wanted "to run away with him". Now it just makes me sigh. Most of the time I want to slap him in the face and shake some sense into him...or into Hannibal because I don't know anymore what he sees in Will!
I think I like the Hannibal/Bedelia storyline in Italy because it's new and exciting, and it's another way to use book material in a twisted and different way, as the series did in season 1 and 2 with many Clarice surrogates, while with the Red Dragon stuff ahead and the current Verger storyline, it seems that the show will be quickly trapped by the canon Hannibal stories and following footprints left by others on papers and on screen.
But apparently Mads Mikkelsen is shirtless again in the next episode so I will watch anyway. Yes, I'm that easy...
BTW I miss having an aperitivo in Rome, we usually went to that place off Campo dei Fiori, and it was great, a true buffet full of various meals, not the stuff they kept for tourists
