Personality: Yoh is, in a nutshell, a bit insecure but not ashamed of any of his emotions. He was teased at a young age because of his "strange" appearance (Yoh is half French and half Japanese, with his looks taking that of his European heritage), he had convinced himself that he would never be accepted for who he was as a person and preferred to be alone most of the time. With the exception of Tsukiko, this continues until he is well into his year at Seigetsu Academy. He creates a wall between him and others, refusing to believe that anyone could possibly have intentions of friendship towards him. He only opens up to Tsukiko, and does not hesitate to take any opportunity to express his feelings towards her. Over the course of the game, he does become more open to others with the help and encouragement of Suzuya, Kanata and Tsukiko, and becomes friendlier overall.
Unlike the other boys in the series, Yoh isn’t very discreet with his feelings towards Tsukiko. Whenever the subject of crushes or love is brought up, he won’t hesitate to say something along the lines of “It’s alright, because I really like you!” or “Because I like you…” to Tsukiko. He might even break out the
Gratuitous French, saying something in French while speaking a sentence in Japanese such as “Je t’aime!”. Physical contact isn’t a problem for him either, as he is more than happy to kiss her cheek and embrace her in public and in private. Everyone else on the other hand, is shocked by these bold moves and considers him to be quite rude.
Yoh doesn’t have a short temper, but getting him angry isn’t the best idea in the world. To protect those who he cares about, he’ll start with calm words to solve conflicts but will resort to violence if he needs to. Despite his thin, frail and “feminine” appearance, he can throw in quite a few good punches. He’ll also break out the French when he’s angry or upset, using phrases such as “J’en ai marre!” and “Ca suffit comme ça!” to break up an argument.
In a way, Yoh could be viewed as a little smug or arrogant. In the beginning of the series, the result of his closed-off heart tends to be that he views himself as higher than others. He enjoys making sarcastic remarks to showcase another person's flaws. He also believes that only he is fit for Tsukiko’s affections, no one else is deserving of her, and that they anyone who thinks otherwise should back off.
As demonstrated throughout the game, Yoh is a bit of a glutton - he simply loves food. Not just French food either, but anything made well that’s set in front of him. Suzuya and his cooking skills tend to be the fuel that “feeds” that fire, as he will always eat anything that Suzuya will make for him. He’s playfully teased for this, but doesn’t see anything wrong with it at all. He’s also able to maintain that very nice girlish figure, considering all those carbs he takes in every day. Amazing, isn’t it?
In summary, Yoh Tomoe is a gratuitous French speaker, shameless romantic, a heavy eater, a stone heart-turned soft, and hopelessly in love. Going to Johto might prove to be a good learning experience for him.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENTHS
- bilingual: French and Japanese (not like it'll matter)
- skilled in physical combat (fist fighting)
- somewhat of a good mediator for arguments
- patient and attentive, for those who he deems worthy of it
WEAKNESSES
-picky; mostly with people he meets
- snarky and smug, a bit narcissistic
- impatient and fickle, for those who he deems unworthy
- gluttony, a bit of a food hog
His biggest fear is the loss of his friends and people he cares for. Yoh can have unlimited determination when it comes to this, willing to put anything on the line to keep them safe.

Samples
First Person Sample: [ the feed clicks on to show a very confused redhead with an oversized ahoge. ]
Ah... excusez-moi, could someone possibly give me a hand here? Where exactly am I? This room isn't my home... and there's a strange fox here with me.
[ he turns the camera to said fox, as it chirps into the camera with a small "Vulpix!" ]
It is a bit cute though... [ he leans down to it's level and pets it a few times. ] Oh, it's warm! Such grace and beauty.... with a touch of cute charm. I don't know what you are, but I might be taking a liking to you.
[ the Vulpix rubs against his hand, chirping again. but this time, a small tounge of fire comes out of it's mouth that sends Yoh jumping backward. ]
Mon dieu, i-it can breathe... fire? That explains the warmth... but that's definitly dangerous. This'll take some getting used to...
Third Person Sample: Yoh and his Vulpix, which he decided to nickname "Céleste", were in an open field together. It was a perfect setting to train, and Yoh wanted to take this opportunity to see how beautiful Celeste's movements could be. He kneeled down, stroking her fur lightly.
"Alright, Céleste. We're going to do a few moves in combination that will show off your true beauty. You'll look like une étoile qui brille. Does that sound like a plan?"
Céleste nodded, taking a ready position as Yoh backed away a little. "Alright, my darling Céleste, make rings with Fire Spin!"
Céleste obeyed, and five rings of fire were set around the field. "Then use Double Team! Make as many of you as there are rings!"
Suddenly, Céleste was not one, but five Vulpix. Only Yoh could tell which was the true one.
"Now jump through them with Quck Attack!"
Each Céleste gave out a cry as they pounced, jumping through each of the rings with precision. However, the poor thing lost her balance on one of them, causing the rest of the copies and fire rings to disappear in an instant. She fell to the ground, a bit hurt. At the sight of this, Yoh rushed to her side.
"Céleste, ma cherie, are you alright?" He picked up the fox in his arms, and it nodded. There was only a small mark to determine where she fell, but Céleste was young. It had probably hurt her.
"Don't worry. You did fine for your first time. We'll keep practicing, alright?" he asked the Vulpix, to which it chirped in response and nuzzled his cheek. Yoh had never really had such a connection to something resembling a pet before. Turtles, rabbits and the like that were given to him as a child had never bonded with him on a level of love. With Céleste, this seemed to be different.
They'd be the most graceful pair that Johto would ever see, step by step.
