Well, it’s official: As of last night, I have a stepmother. I don’t know how I feel about that, but my father is happy, and that’s the important thing. It’s great to hear happiness in his voice.

I am amused, given that step-mothers have the reputation/stigma of being evil, that the french term is "belle-mere".

What's equally as ironic is that belle-mère can also mean mother-in-law.
