Tutorial: // How To Install My Layouts
A few people have asked me how to install the base styles I make and post in my community. Instead of repeating everything in comments/emails, I have decided to make a tutorial. :)
While you are logged in, go here: Customize. If you are using "Old System (S1)," go to the drop down menu and choose "New System (S2)" and click "switch." Then go here: Your Layers.
Scroll to the bottom to where it says "Create Layer."
Where it says "Create layout-specific layer," Type: Theme, Layout: Component. Click "Create."
^^ that's theme layer.
Now go back to where it says "Create layout-specific layer," Type: User, Layout: Component. Click "Create."
^^ that's user layer.
Now, when you download a style from me, you'll find 3 text files. Onei s marked "LAYOUTNAME -- theme" and one is marked "LAYOUTNAME -- user." (The other is marked "readme" and along with the basic "CREDIT ME OR I'LL PEE ON YOU" message, is a link to component_help, a fantastic community dedicated to customizing the Component layout.)
Next to the new layers you've created, you see the LayerID >> Type >> Name. Look for "theme (none)," and after that a button that reads "Edit ... " Click edit and you see a boring page like this:
Open the "LAYOUTNAME -- theme" file I've sent you, select all, copy and paste into the theme layer then hit "Compile." If at the top it reads "No errors," you're home free. Click the "<< Your Layers" link at the top.
Go back to the layers you've created, and find LayerID >> Type >> Name. Look for "user (none)," and click edit.
Open the "LAYOUTNAME -- user" file I've sent you, select all, copy and paste into the user layer then hit "Compile." If at the top it reads "No errors," you're home free again!. Click the "<< Your Layers" link at the top and continue on to Your Styles.
Where it says "Create Style," type in whatever you want to name the style. I typed in "New Layout."
You get to edit your style now. Follow these steps:
Language (i18nc): English
Layout: Component
click "Change."
Theme: LAYER NAME HERE
User: LAYER NAME HERE
Click "Save Changes."
Next to your new layout's name, you have 3 options. Edit, delete, and use. Select "Use" to ... use. Go back to your journal and you should see the new style.
BTW: The numbers you see next to your layout name is a link that leads you to a preview of your layout.
