Unfortunatly what I want, and what I'm going to get are two different things.
Several cars are just out of my stretch zone for monthly payments.
The nissan Versa is a bit small for me.

The Toyota Matrix would be the right size- now finding one in my price range will be hard.

I'm not sure if the Nissan Sentra would he heavy enough for the kind of winter driving I need to do.

I'm tepid about the Honda Fit. He who shall not be named owns one- as silly as that sounds it turns me off.

The Kia's are not bad-they are the same company as the Hyndais- which are much better than they used to be.

I test drove the Mazda 3 hatchback and sedan- both automatics with the sport shift.
The seats have to go almost all the way back for me, then with the telescoping wheel action I could get comfortable. I'm more enamored of the way they handle.

And the bells and whistles.

Oh to have a sugar daddy.

Right now the two cars topping my list for next year about this time are two you drove: the Optima, and the Mazda 3.

Both NICE cars, and handle well, and totally affordable. I might take the Optima over the Mazda, though. :)

As a proud owner of a 2006 Mazda 3 sedan, I love my car and the maintenance she requires (which is very little.. I've had no problems in the handful of years with my car that weren't caused by other drivers). (I bought her new, by the by.) Gas mileage, while noticeable compared to my mom's '02 Honda Civic, is still insanely reasonable, comparitively speaking to most other cars on the road today.

In regards to another commenter who said the 3 was a bit cramped for them, my mom said the same. If she drives it, she pulls the seat all the way forward, and finds the seat itself a bit.. pinched for her size, but the way it handles when she drives, she couldn't ask for something better. For me, however, I have to pull the seat almost as far back as I can go and then I'm comfortable, after pumping up the height adjustment. ~heh~ But my mom is 5'5" and some 200+ pounds, where I'm barely 5'3", 120 lbs. <3

Good luck finding a car that suits YOUR needs and fits into your price range/ability to make payments, Caro. Seriously. All the
