Yellow Snow // Changmin x Onew
Growing Up AU // G
Part one of a series of really small drabbles detailing certain years of Changmin and Jinki's friendship. This is when they're eight and nine years old and the year begins when Changmin dares Jinki to eat the yellow snow.
January
"Changmin-ah, look! The snow is yellow." An excited Jinki points at the ground, eyes wide and in awe.
Changmin crosses his arms over his chest, cold, frustrated, and wishing he could just go inside. "I dare you to eat it."
February
"You have chocolate?"
Jinki looks up at his friend and hums. "My mommy gave it to me."
Changmin opens his mouth, probably to ask for some when Yeonhee taps him on the shoulder.
"Hi, Changmin. I got you a Valentine’s Day card." She says and shoves it into his hands. She walks away.
"Ew~ You have cooties now."
March
"Where is the sun?!" Jinki wails, clawing at the window separating him from the foggy outdoors.
"Forget about the sun, where is my invisible action figure?"
April
"The sun'll come out, tomorrow." Jinki sighs, looking out the window from his perch on Changmin's racecar bed.
"Bet your bottom dollar that, tomorrow, there'll be rain."
Changmin barely misses the pillow thrown at him.
May
Jinki stops in front of Changmin. The latter looks up from his sand castle.
"What's up Jinki-ah?"
"Do you know where Ms. Kim is?"
Changmin shakes his head. "Why?"
"I cut my finger on the swing set." Jinki pouts, holding up his injured digit for Changmin to see.
"...How about I kiss it and make it better? We can get a bandage for you later."
June
"Ice creeeeam!" And excited Jinki yells.
"Shut up! You're too loud." Changmin covers his eyes and Jinki sticks out his tongue, a glob of strawberry ice cream dripping from it.
He brings it back into his mouth before the cream melts off and his tongue dries out. "You're just angry your daddy didn't buy you ice cream."
Changmin pouts.
"I'll share with you if you want. Sharing is caring."
July
"Spider!"
Jinki peeks into the tent. "Changmin, are you okay - SPIDER!"
He lunges for the closest item: a small black trainer.
"Hey, don't kill it with my things. Use your own shoe, Jinki."
August
Changmin pokes the cheek of a sleeping Jinki. The latter turns in his sleep, his head awkwardly arranged against the backseat of the car.
After more shifting from the younger, Changmin places his head on his shoulder.
...
"Jinki, wake up! You're drooling on me. Ew."
September
"Ooooh, a red leaf." Jinki picks the leaf up from the ground and examines it with as much as care and seriousness an eight year old can muster.
"I dare you to eat it."
Jinki frowns at Changmin. "No, not after I almost ate the yellow snow. I'm not eating anything you tell me to."
October
"What are you supposed to be?"
Jinki looks down at himself and pouts at Changmin as if it should be obvious. "I'm a mummy."
Changmin grabs him by the arm and drags him to the bathroom. "That's not enough toilet paper. I'm sure my dad doesn't care if we steal some."
November
"Changmin, I'm cold."
"Your mommy did tell you to get a bigger jacket."
Jinki narrows his eyes at his friend and slaps him halfheartedly. Changmin laughs at him and opens his arms wide.
"What?" Jinki stares at him, flinching when the first firework flies into the air behind him.
Changmin groans and pulls Jinki into his arms. "Stop being so slow. We're going to miss the show."
December
"Happy birthday, Jinki."
Jinki waves him off, bouncing on his toes. "Yeah, yeah, what'd you get me?"
Changmin blinks. "I didn't know what you wanted."
Frowning, Jinki purses his lips before shrugging. "That's okay. Let’s go play in the snow."
The two slip out the door leading to Jinki's backyard, swinging conjoined hands and not about to trick each other into eating the yellow snow.
