Washing Dishes // Changmin x Onew
Growing Up AU // G
Part two of a series of really small drabbles detailing certain years of Changmin and Jinki's friendship. This is when they're twelve and thirteen years old and over the year both Jinki and Changmin become women.
[Yellow Snow] January
"It's so cold!"
"Jinki, I swear all you do is whine." Changmin says offhandedly, face buried in his mug of hot chocolate.
A twelve year old Jinki frowns, nursing his own hot chocolate.
"Are you upset about that? I can't really tell from your tone."
"Not really. It's entertaining."
February
"I hate February."
"Why? Because there is nothing for you to do but sit here and get your butt kicked by me in video games?"
'I was actually going to say because of the cold but on the topic of video games," Jinki throws his controller down and crosses his arms over his chest, glaring at Changmin. "You're a friggen cheater."
"Am not. You just be hatin' on my dope skills."
"Never, and I mean never, talk like that again. Ever."
March
"I win. Go wash the dishes."
Jinki raises a finger. "For one, you are a cheater." Then he raises another. "Two, why do I have to wash the dishes when I stay the night at your house?"
"Game rules." Changmin shrugs. "These dishes aren't going to wash themselves."
"I'm not washing the dishes."
"You will." Jinki frowns as Changmin takes the game controller from his hands and lifts him by the wrist to drag him into the kitchen. "Come on, I'll even dry them for you when you're done."
April
'It's raining.'
'Yeah.'
...
'Changmin, you're wasting my battery just breathing like that.'
'Oh, sorry.' There's a pause. 'So it's raining.'
'I see this. I see you too.'
'Jinki?'
'Hm?'
'Why don't we have anything better to do but stare at each other through our bedroom windows?'
'Because there is never anything better to do when it's raining?'
Both boys sigh at the same time. 'Wanna play window charades?'
Jinki raises an eyebrow and Changmin waves excitedly. 'Fine. We can play window charades.'
May
"GRAWWWR."
"You cannot be a pre-teen boy. I refuse to believe I was like that a year ago."
Jinki frowns. "Being thirteen doesn't automatically make you mature, okay? Now make animal noises with me." He nudges his stoic friend who refuses to do anything but stare at the lion in the cage before them.
"No. Why should I?" Changmin doesn't take his eyes off the feline stalking around.
"When in Rome do as the Romans do?"
"This is a zoo."
"When at the Zoo do as the Zoomans do?"
Changmin rolls his eyes at the lame joke. "That lion is totally going to eat you."
June
Jinki snores and his head falls back against the chair he's sitting in. He woke up too excited that morning and spent all of his energy and at the moment a nap just sounds so nice.
Changmin looks behind him when he registers he's walking alone. "Jinki?" He calls. "Jinki?"
He turns around to watch as the bus takes off down the street. "I really hope he wasn't still on that. I don't know how I'll explain it to his parents."
July
"You got any ones?'
"Go fish."
"You got any twos?"
"Go fish."
"You got any bait?"
"Go - Jinki stop making stupid jokes."
August
'Hey, I didn't see you at school today.'
'Yeah. I had to show this new kid around. But whatever about that, come over. My dad bought this new fighting game yesterday and even though it's rated M for mature he said he'll let us play it."
'Is that okay? I mean, my mom said I can only play things that are within my age range.'
'Geez, Jinki, do you wanna be a wimp or do you wanna be cool?'
'Who are you and what have you done with Changmin?'
'Fine, you don't have to play it, just get over here. You can wash the dishes for me.'
September
"Ponyo loves Sosuke, Changmin. Ponyo loves Sosuke."
Changmin allows himself to be shaken as he tries to sip at his Cola.
"Ponyo -
"Loves Sosuke. I get it."
"Why are you not as excited as me?"
"Because Ponyo was a girly movie. And as a man, I do not like girly movies."
Jinki frowns. "But I like Ponyo and if you're a man then what am I?"
"You're obviously a girl."
October
Changmin jumps at the hand on his shoulder and turns around.
"Your mom let me in. It's hard to see. What are you doing?" Kyuhyun adjusts his glasses as he joins Changmin under the table.
"Shhh. We're playing hide and seek in the dark."
Kyuhyun nods and brings his legs to his chest.
"Who is the person who is it?"
"Okay you guys, I'm opening my - OH GOD I'M BLIND."
Changmin shakes his head, stifling a laugh. "Jinki."
November
"My arms hurt."
"Of course they do. You're not a man."
"If you're such a man, Changmin, why don't you come over here and rake these leaves."
"Why should I rake your leaves when you're the one with the huge tree in front of your house?"
"I wash your dishes."
Changmin blinks at the rake offered to him. He sighs. "Touché."
December
"I will never call you a girl again if you eat it." Changmin smirks, gloved hand holding a mound of snow. Yellow snow.
"You do this to me every year. I'm not going to eat the yellow snow."
"Shouldn't you respect your elders?"
Jinki laughs and Changmin frowns because he doesn't understand just what is so funny. "Me? Respect you? No."
"Do I need to bust out some Aretha Franklin right now?"
"But wouldn't that make you a woman? And not a man?"
Changmin opens his mouth but closes it. He notices at the corners of Jinki's mouth turn up and in a last minute desperate attempt from losing whatever it is they're playing he throws the snow at Jinki's chest. "Tag! You're it."

END of ages 12/13
(I'm a little late but I watched Ponyo for the first time yesterday and I think I squealed throughout the entire thing. Ponyo loves Sosuke you guys. Ponyo loves Sosuke.)
