[FIGHTS] ... and how they go

Auggie: Not bad.
Annie: The jab is back, right?
Auggie: [Sighs.]
Annie: Right, Auggie?
Auggie: I heard about last night. I know from first-hand experience what it's like to push too hard after a trauma.
Annie: I'm not. [Pause.] I am, but what's wrong with wanting to get back on your feet?
Auggie: It's not just about your feet. You lost someone, it ( Read more... )

Clay went to visit Annie at her house during his lunch hour. When he didn't find her there, he drove all the way back to Langley and asked Joan where she was. He didn't expect Joan's answer to be in the agency gym.

He stood in the back of the gym and watched Annie's little display with Auggie, and the blood from her wounds. He also noticed the absolute anger in her eyes. Three steps forward, and he was behind Auggie. Clay doubted Annie even saw him there.

"Stop fighting the blind guy. If you want to fight someone try someone who can fight back."

"Hey," Auggie said, turning slightly when he heard Clay's voice. A half-smile appeared on his face and he nodded in Clay's direction. "I'm offended. If this were a real fight, I'd kick her ass. Isn't that right, Walker?"

Annie was breathing hard, her chest aching. She lowered her gloves and glared at Clay over Auggie's shoulder. "We're not fighting. It's called sparring, Webb. What're you doing down here?"

She never talked back to him and she never, ever called him Webb.

Annie calling him Webb grated on him. She didn't do that. She never did that.

"I went to see you at home during my lunch hour. You weren't there. I went to the DPD, you weren't there. Imagine my surprise that you were down here. Doing something very much against doctor's orders."

With that he pointed to the blood on her chest.

Annie looked down at the center of her chest, aware of what she'd see there and then looked up at him, defiant. "I'm fine."

Taking that as his cue, Auggie took a step back. He knew better than to get in the middle of what was, essentially, an ex-lovers tiff. "Annie. You need to take it-" He felt, rather than saw, her turn her head toward him. "Right. I'm gonna hit the showers."

"You shouldn't be surprised, but it's none of your business what I do. And the faster I get back on my feet, the faster I can get back out in the field." Annie's tone told Clay exactly what she planned on doing once she was back out there, too.

Unlike most people on some semblance of vacation, Annie didn't sleep in - she couldn't. Despite the wine and the Vicodin, she was up fairly early and simply pulled on a pair of cotton shorts under her Harvard shirt before pulling her hair into a ponytail and heading downstairs to find coffee.

Once it was started, she knew it would be a matter of minutes before Webb was up; between the two of them, coffee was a staple in the morning. And since they were often in sync while together, she knew she'd see him soon.

Clay smelled the coffee from his bedroom. At least some things about Annie didn't change during this whole mess with Lena. Annie Walker still loved her coffee. He got dressed in a much more relaxed version of his usual clothing and headed downstairs.

There was Annie in his shirt and even though he saw it the night before, he couldn't help his smile. "Good morning."

Annie had a feeling that she still looked a little sleep mussed. It always made her feel a little awkward with him dressed and her not, and she flashed him a quick smile before handing him a mug of coffee.

"Morning." She took a drink from her mug. "I'll get dressed. I just wanted to start the coffee before..." She paused. "Just before I got too awake."

Clay took a sip of his coffee before speaking, "Don't worry about it, Annie. You don't have to get dressed."

He wanted her to feel comfortable. That was the point of all of this. Annie needed to feel comfortable.
