I see it's "post anything on LJ day," and so I'm posting quick before my power and internet both go out. The lights have flickered several times, the thunder is booming at a deafening volume, and torrential rain has just started to pound down out of absolutely nowhere ( Read more... )

I live in England. The weather here turns on the head of a pin. Blazing sunshine, thunderstorms and even hailstones all in the course of an hour are not uncommon.

Hailstones are quite rare where I am in the eastern U.S. but the thunder we've got! :)

Then you've got us all beat! I lived in earthquake country for years but tornados scare me more. Eek.

I've nearly always lived in Colorado, where if you don't like the weather, you can wait five minutes and it might well change from blue skies to the craziest storm you've ever seen. Or both at once. That wall-of-black-clouds apocalypse-like scenario you're describing is generally greeted with "Oh, good, some rain" 'round these parts. ;-> Funny that you posted this today, because last night was sheeting rain and constant lightning--multiple bolts per second. That was even pretty wild for us.

Did your power stay on, I hope? :-)

Thankfully, my power did stay on, but my internet has been down for days. We're burning through our cell data plan, drat it.

I live in Northern England and it rains 99% of the time (saying that it's sunny here today!) But we don't really get dramatic weather here (finger crossed), so I guess we're lucky.

But I do find big storms rather fascinating to watch. For me they're equal parts exiting and terrifying!

Funny, I just watched a huge rumbly one roll in...beautiful! Now if only the power hadn't gone out. :$

I understand that! They are juggernauts of nature. My kids and dog and cat are huddled together weathering another one right now!
