So, Mixi had a litter of 4 way earlier Sat.(we're talking like noon or earlier) . .count 'em . .4.When we realized she wasn't nursing them we tried to show them to Sake, who also just had babies, and what dose Sake do . . tries to EAT one. So no surrogate mommy rat. She won't nurse them without us holding her there, or at least hold her front half ( Read more... )

You can put a hot water bottle underneath a blanket or towel that will help keep the babies warm in addition to having a lamp over the cage. You can get a tiny dropper or dip a cotton Q-tip in baby animal formula if the mom doesn't nurse them.

OMG! thanks for the Q_tip idea, wouldve never thought about it. But thankfully she has continued to be a good mommy and has stayed with them all night and is still with them. I think our worries may be over!
