House Hunters: Picky bitches are picky. Also, I wanna house.

So I've been watching a ton of House Hunters (regular and international versions) and Love it or List It and all those other home-buying/improving shows, because being in a steady relationship is making me all nesty and I'm eventually (gods know when, but some day!) going to be getting a home or apartment or domicile of some sort with the RTB. ( It's amazing what people consider to be deal-breakers in terms of buying a house. )

I love House Hunters* and I love this post. I wish it were on Netflix; I don't have cable anymore.

When mom and I were looking for a place to rent years ago we also found a home that had a carpeted bathroom, and the carpet was sopping wet when we viewed it. I was gobsmacked; I'm still amazed that people think carpet in a bathroom is an excellent idea. I'm a huge fan of architecture and floor designs so it's cool to see all of the different house-designs on the show, but it blows my mind that 24 year olds with $300k budgets will turn down the perfect home because the microwave is the wrong color. I get what you're saying. I've always had a roof over my head but really I'm just happy if the house is solid and has a bathroom; the wallpaper and curtains simply don't matter ( ... )

Another point of complaint is road access. "It's a beautiful house, but the street is so BUSY!" they'll say as a single minivan trundles past the acres of suburban yard. Apparently roads are a disqualifying feature in prospective homes. I wonder how they plan to actually access the house. Make use of their private helipad, no doubt. My favourite is when they move to a place in a large city like New York or Chicago and complain "It's so NOISY!" and "Our neighbors are so CLOSE!" You're not in Kneestump, Oklahoma any more, Farmer Joe. Cities = people ( ... )
