so i want my ears pierced. i never got them done when i was a kid b/c my parents wouldn't allow it, then i developed a complex about my small ears and didn't want to draw attention to them, then i just didn't care about it, and now i kinda want them, mostly b/c there are so many pairs of freaking cute earrings that i want and/or already have for

Get them done at Claire's. I saw a 20-something year old guy getting his done there the other day, and I didn't think anything of it. If that makes you feel better...

i got my ears pierced when i was 11 (i think) at a nicer jewelry store in the mall. but now that i think about it, that sounds weird. i don't know any nicer jewelry stores that do piercings. but it wasn't claire's.
and whaddya know, i haven't worn earrings for at least 5 years. i somehow became allergic to them. and i think the holes have shrunk. and i really don't like earrings anyway. my grandmother thinks i'm a freak for this. all i want to wear are really really really small silver hoops, the kind that barely fit around your ear. but all earrings now make my ears turn red & throb.

that is so weird. you're not allergic to the metal, right? like rings and necklaces don't hurt you at all? how strange.

for most of high school & college, i wore some really cheap silver hoops. slept in them, showered in them, never took them out. they were cheap Claire's hoops & one day i noticed they were bent. so i got some nicer (still cheap) hoops, sterling silver. i dont' remember what happened, but yeah, it's like i became allergic. but i also wonder if my holes just shrunk, & maybe all earrings just irritate my ears b/c they're opening the holes again? whatev. all i know is that every time i wear earrings (only if i'm IN a wedding), i end up taking them off at the reception. but no, no other jewelry (rings, necklaces) have that effect on me.

hahahahaha, i really enjoyed this post. to your question "where does a 27 year old go to get her ears pierced without feeling somehow lame?" i answer possibly the same place a 21 year old goes to get her braces tightened? swallow the shame and go to claires, its cheaper and faster. i wish i could just give you mine though, i really dont wear earrings at all (just often enough to not have my holes close). also, a tip is to go ahead and assume that yorue allergic to nickel and buy real silver or gold (im thinking silver though since i dont wear gold and i have the creeping suspicion that you dont either :D) Best of luck, ill be cringing for you!

will you be wearing gold in 6 years? then NO, i don't either. of course. silver it is. thanks for the tip, though I think i would have made that decision anyway b/c fake silver rings turn my fingers green, so i go with the real deal.
