I have been spoiled with revelation.

Jhegaala was good, but it's probably the Taltos book I like the least. The fault lies not in any particular part of the storytelling itself, but rather in how of ALL the Dragaera novels, it is the only one that added nothing to the world, the story, the protagonist himself.

Eh, really? I mean, you know I'm not taking issue with your opinion of the book, but I'm surprised by that reason -- as far as world, it's probably the best look we've had at the East, and as far as Vlad, I... uh... well, I thought there was somethin' going on in his head. All that muck about family and heritage is the kind of thing I don't have much of a feel for anyway, so maybe to some extent I sort of blindly trust that it's meaningful.

Personally, I found it pretty midrange, though of course midrange for a good series is pretty nice. A step up from Dzur, but less on its own merits than because the latter had a handicap. Something of a low-rent Orca with the badass authorial tricks replaced by fleshing out the setting. (And Orca was my favorite, but mainly because of the authorial tricks.) We were due for a break from the plot, though, and Loiosh is still the best.
