trevor and brian and i learned a similar lesson from the collapse of notcows, our consulting business.

we didn't have the capital to do advertising, and word of mouth will only get you so far (two RIT professors' computers, one large internal database job for brian's ex's dad, and a couple of web sites here and there, to be exact).

we didn't focus on the business either, and it bit us in the ass.

as you say, learn and move onward...
