I actually splurged and bought a CD of the game again, because I never owned an original from when Microprose existed. I only ever owned Terror From the Deep. I'm not sure how Steam's version would work under some crazy combined Linux -> wine -> steam -> dosbox
The really bizarre thing is that now that I own it and mention replaying it, suddenly there is a new FPS XCOM game announced....
I know most of the die hard fans are already panning it as a terrible direction, but it has possibilities... Tactical Multi-Player "Squad" Co-op FPS anyone?

Could be good. Could be excrement. I'm hoping for the good. But so far this UFO AI looks pretty good.
I gave up on building it and grabbed an executable. We'll see if that works better. Things weren't giving me translated text so it wasn't very interesting to play.

It downloads with dosbox set to run them cleanly.
I doubt I will ever play anything other than the original: and for $2 it was worth it.
Of course my first base, Bink Inc, was set up in Seattle.
