X-Com is such a kick ass game even after all these years. Being able to play it perfectly on a Linux box is added gravy ( Read more... )

Steam offered all of the Xcom games for $2 a few months ago.
It downloads with dosbox set to run them cleanly.

I doubt I will ever play anything other than the original: and for $2 it was worth it.

Of course my first base, Bink Inc, was set up in Seattle.

I actually splurged and bought a CD of the game again,
because I never owned an original from when Microprose existed.
I only ever owned Terror From the Deep. I'm not sure how Steam's
version would work under some crazy combined
Linux -> wine -> steam -> dosbox

The really bizarre thing is that now that I own it and mention replaying it,
suddenly there is a new FPS XCOM game announced....

I know most of the die hard fans are already panning it as a terrible direction,
but it has possibilities... Tactical Multi-Player "Squad" Co-op FPS anyone?

Could be good. Could be excrement. I'm hoping for the good. But so far this UFO AI looks pretty good.

I gave up on building it and grabbed an executable. We'll see if that works better. Things weren't giving me translated text so it wasn't very interesting to play.
