Haha, so this is what I meant to write, earlier. XD Look at me, practically prolific. :P

Title: I Missed You

Characters: Kakashi, Kei (oc)

Warnings: angst, mild slash.

It was ironic, really, that his signature jutsu, the only one he made would come back to bite him on the ass. But after twenty-five years of channeling the massive amounts of chakra needed through his fist there bound to have ill effects. So, according to the medics, it was no surprise that most mornings he could barely open his right hand, fingers curling into a fist, refusing to straighten out without excruciating amounts of pain.

Now, Kakashi had to add a daily appointment to the hospital to his list of chores. It wasn't really so bad now. He had frustrated his former doctor to distraction ("wait, you mean to say I can't use chidori in my right hand. But the treatments..."), who had essentially quit his case after working with him for only a month. They had assigned him Kei after that, since the man was practically famous for coaxing even the most stubborn of jounin to lie down, rest and take their medicine.

Kakashi had known Kei while the both of them were in ANBU, had actually been very close friends with the big, scarred medic, at least for a while. Looking back on it, Kakashi was amazed that Kei had been able to put with half of his shit from his earlier, wilder (stupider) days.

But the bond had faded, Kei left ANBU, Kakashi stayed, and they just drifted apart. Perhaps there had been more than that. Well, there was more than that, but Kakashi wasn't letting himself see it, at least not head on.

He had missed Kei.

So something that had been a chore, now turned into a pleasant way to spend an hour each day.

His hand was bothering him particularly today, and he was unable to even begin to uncurl his fingers, the arthritic, calcified joints screaming in protest. Ignoring it the best he could, he made his way up the steps of the hospital, taking the familiar path to Kei's office.

"Hey." he said, standing in the door way, slouching a little, on hand shoved in a pocket, in a fairly good imitation of his normal ease. You would only notice the pain lines around his one visible eye if you knew what to look for.

Kei's green eyes flicked up, and a warm smile crossed his handsome features. "Hello Kakashi. Early to our appointment I see. I should be flattered." The smile smoothed out a little as noticed the faint grooves by Kakashi's eye. "No need to hide it. You're allowed to be human around me."

Kakashi laughed lightly, hiding the way the smile and the words somehow made his heart twist, just a little bit, in his chest. "Saa. Ever observant, doctor." He walked up to the examining table, and hopped up on it, long legs swinging, used to the procedure involved.

"Are the corticosteroids working?" Kei asked, frowning a little as he picked up Kakashi's curled, clenched hand. "It really does seem like an autoimmune response is somehow involved in this." He gently pressed Kakashi's smaller hand between his big ones, fingers massaging at the tortured hand, pressing little flashes of chakra at various pressure points.

"Yes, ah-" the chakra didn't hurt, and Kei's hands were so gentle on his, carefully coaxing his hand open. Kakashi took a deep breath, continuing on, "It just that I get flare ups." He took another deep breath as Kei's fingers dragged over the back of his hand, soft, light, and it was like...

He tore his mind away from that dangerous thought.

"That's good." Kei looked up, and gave Kakashi another one of those soft smiles, and Kakashi let himself bask in the emotion, a stolen luxury. The smile widened a touch, and he added almost shyly. "You know, it's good seeing you again, Kakashi."

I've missed you so much, Kei.

"Definitely." Kakashi twitched out a smile for Kei, other hand clenching reflexively, wanting, wanting, and then it was just moving, and his stupid brain just wouldn't listen, too busy listening to his heart.

His fingers rested on Kei's wrist, the contact light, but there, his thumb lightly rubbing at a strong forearm.

There was a distinct pause in Kei's movements, and then a gentle little twist his wrist, dislodging Kakashi's hand.

"I love you."

"I don't do love, Kei."

Of course. Did he expect the other man to wait for him, all this time, to preserve those feelings in the hope that Kakashi would finally grow up?

He really wished he had.

"How's Jun?" Kakashi asked, just groping for a topic. Not the best one, but it was the one that popped into his head, first.

"He's good." Kei replied, looking up, another wide, beautiful smile crossing his face, all tension leaving the large frame at the mention of his lover's name.

Kakashi watched the emotion, and didn't even pretend it was for him this time.

"I'm glad."

He hoped the yearning on his face, wasn't as obvious as it seemed.

Idiot.
