Right. So a lot of the times, I associate wither a song or an entire band with a character I write. So, in an extreme fit of nerdiness, I decided to write out the strongest associations. It's kinda silly, but I think its an important base for understanding the characters. eh. XD
Most of these songs make me want to cry>> *cough*
Haru: Sodom South Georgia by Iron and Wine (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PIi0hIT4XQ)
Haru is a quiet, matter-of-fact sadness, stemming from the death of his wife, and their child she was carrying. While it happened many years ago, that sort of event doesn't go away. The pain may fade, but it'll never fully go away. It comes to define you, in a way. That's what happened to Haru, he carries this quiet pain, the ache of regret and what might have been with him.
First of all, Samuel Beam's voice is pure, slow sadness personified. I would really say that all of Iron and Wine is Haru, or at least the album Our Endless Numbered Days is. But, I chose this song because of imagery it evokes, the side by side descriptions of death and life.
Papa died while my girl
Lady Edith was born
Both heads fell like
Eyes on a crack in the door
Just showing that death happened, and there's nothing we can do beyond move forward.
Kei: Real Life Version, by Voxtrot. (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCpZoM13LBA)
A lot of what characterizes Kei is this sort of longing ache. He's a sweet guy, but he's very lonely. He has very few close friends, a combination of being naturally shy, and also what he went through. Being tortured like that but a veil, or barrier between him and people, one that he's not even completely aware of. It makes it hard for him to open up to people; he'll be perfectly kind, sweet, but he'll keep most interactions like that, acquaintance rather than friends.
Now this song by Voxtrot encapsulates this feeling perfectly.
I see you, I see you
I see you, always struggling
To find some gentle song
Some mode of simple trust
and ways to understand
Because Kei wants to break this barrier, he's aching to do it, to let someone in. He just doesn't know how to do it, or if he even can, if some scars run too deep.
Eames: I Wish I Was Someone Better, by Blood Red Shoes. (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDgxXPUbZJA)
This song is all about barely repressed bitterness, anger.
Made a mistake
I made a mistake
I wear the scars to show my shame
and the lines:
I wish I was someone better x14
Hell. I don't even know how to explain this one. Just trust me. This is Eames (my version at least). Well, it's Eames down at his core, that deep, dark, doubting part that everyone has. This is Eames after a job gone to hell, piss-drunk and without Arthur.
