I don't think I'd blame Taylor for the bombs. Hollywood universally agrees that John Carter was a marketing FAIL, and Battleship was made fun of before it was even cast. And duh, it's competing with Avengers.
I'm really interested to see what happens with Savages. I've read the book and it's really gritty stuff, nothing like the other two movies. Although I think it's a mistake to give him top billing on that. There are bigger stars in equally important parts that they could list.
I already replied with a rant to a similar post in ONTD, so I'll just sum it up here: not his fault at all. It's just Hollywood trying to blame poor marketing, bad release dates, and not-great films on the fact that they just happen to share the same lead actor.
Thing is John Carter, as I saw it was pitched and marketed more as an overall "event" movie, more then a "$200,000,000 blockbuster starring Taylor Kitsch." None of the promos and trailers I saw blared the fact that Kitsch was the star. I mean, yeah he got plenty of facetime but his name wasn't front and center
