So, today at school Anwen has to give a speech to her class about why they should pick her to be on the School Council. Competition seems to be tough apparently with twelve children all interested in the two opennings (one boy and one girl from each class) and although she wants to do it, she seems to be being realistic about the fact with so many people going for it chances are slim of her actually getting it.
So over the past couple of weeks when the topic has come up we've spoken about why she's interested in doing it, why she thinks she could do a good job and jotted down some notes -
I want to avoid breaking into business speak and saying that my daughter and I brainstormed the key points that she could bring to the role.
- I've tried not to push the issue and left it down to her when and how much she's wanted to do whenever it's come up, because I don't want to turn into those ultra pushy parents, if she's interested in doing something like this I'll help as much as I can but as it's meant to be a bit of fun then as far as I'm concerned it's got to be on her terms.
On Tuesday evening we pulled everything together so she's got a quick intro, three statements about why she things that she'd be a good choice and then a closing statement.
Perhaps most importantly she's coloured in the back of her speech with a bright "Vote for me" motif which they'll be able to see when she's reading from it. A couple of practice runs through and we'll see how she does tonight.
Would be great for her if she gets it, but she seems to have had fun doing everything this far so if not it's definitely not the end of the world.
