1.1 Introduction

Some people are wondering about the release of Konami’s new Silent Hill game, Silent Fight 2: Fight For Mary, having trouble getting to grips with the new controls and strange enemies, so this FAQ will be putting it all to rights. We’ll be leading you through the game explaining the characters to you as we go.

Thanks go to Konami for creating a great game and Capcom for releasing an identical game three weeks later.

1.2 Opening Cut Scene:

James, Angela and Eddie are in James’s office. James and Eddie are playing Ping Pong when the phone rings. Angela picks it up.

ANGELA: Hello, this is Mr. Sunderland’s office.

MYSTERIOUS FIGURE: Hey, punk! We’ve got Mary and we’re gonna kill her in three hours! You’d better get ready for the fight of your life if you want her back! Mwahahaha!

ANGELA: Oh my god, they’ve got Mary!

James grabs the phone.

JAMES: Who is this? Who has my wife?

The silhouette on the other side of the screen fades in. It’s Pyramid Head, wearing a fancy suit, top hat and monocle.

PYRAMID HEAD: Why, none other than me, Pyramid Head! It’s time for a showdown James and you’d better turn up or we’ll blow her into the stratosphere!

Pyramid Head hangs up. James starts pulling a jacket on.

JAMES: Let’s hit the streets, guys! We’ve got a score to settle with that red pyramid thing!

EDDIE: Alright! Let’s pound some punks!

ANGELA: We’ll show ‘em a thing or two!

1.3 Title Screen

Nice of them to slam the title right into some bricks on a wall, huh? Push Start to start the game. Pushing the Select Button will take you to the options menu where you can access a sound test, view the gallery and choose Stereo, Mono or Dolby Digital sound. When you’ve finished the game once, the options to make the screen darker or brighter and make the screen fuzzy will appear. When you’re ready, begin your quest!

1.4 Controls

Punch button: PUNCH
Jump button: JUMP
Punch and Jump button: SPECIAL
Punch button and forward: GRAB
Tap forward twice: RUN
Punch button while running: SLAM
Punch button while jumping: FLYKICK

COULD IT BE ANY SIMPLER?

1.5 Characters

The three starting characters you can play are James, Angela and Eddie. Let’s have a look at them.

James Sunderland

POWER: ***
SPEED: ***
SPECIAL: ***

James is the classic all-rounder, able to take damage as well as he dishes it out. He’s not as strong as Eddie, but a lot faster and not as fast as Angela, but a lot stronger. You get the idea, right? James wears a big leather jacket, jeans and a red bandanna. When he respawns after death, he falls from the sky and punches the ground, damaging all enemies on screen.

His standard combo is to push the punch button three times, which makes him do a one-two punch, followed by an uppercut, which sends foes sprawling. His jump kick has the best range and damage and you can win the game just using it. His throw is a strong over the shoulder toss, which can damage multiple enemies if you aim it right.

When his special bar is full, pushing both buttons at once will make the screen flash as he brings his fist back and charges a furious punch. He yells, “You’re going to our special place!” then deliver an eight-hit combo, ending in two uppercuts. It’s great against all the bosses in the game, except for Mary who will fly upwards after the first hit.

Angela Orosco

POWER: *
SPEED: ****
SPECIAL: ****

Angela is a difficult character to use, definitely one for experienced players. She works better by staying behind James or Eddie and dishing out huge amounts of damage with her super, avoiding enemies as much as possible the rest of the time. She wears a tank top and miniskirt, with high heels. The 80’s, huh? Can’t go wrong. After Angela’s death animation, her body stays on the ground, and then rises again while flaming wings come out of her back and a zombie-like glow forms in her eyes. The wings and glow disappear when she’s standing again.

Angela’s standard combo is a jab, followed by two knees, then a hard kick. Her jump kick is a knee to the face, which does minimal damage, but her throw does good damage compared to her other moves. She grabs a single enemy and stabs a knife in their face, before a random item appears in her hands (usually a tv) and she breaks it over their head. This takes a few seconds to do but kills most enemies in one hit.

When her special bar is full, she throws her head back and screams and the kanji for “Daddy” appears over her head. Huge, flaming tentacles lash all over the screen, dealing huge damage to everything and immolating most badguys. It causes a knockdown on everything, even bosses.

Eddie Dombrowski

POWER: ****
SPEED: **
SPECIAL: ***

Eddie is a beginner’s character and very easy to use. He wears a pair of brown pants with suspenders and no shirt. His baseball cap is very firmly turned backwards. Eddie’s best attack is to simply move up close to enemies and grapple them, either using his headbutt or his wrestling moves to do huge damage. Eddie’s respawn animation involves five crates falling from the sky, crushing enemies, with things like “Ham” or “Eggs” written on the side. Eddie will always get out of the crate with “Ham” written on it, stuffing his face, no less.

Eddie is a brawler and uses heavy punches to get the job done. His jump kick is virtually non-existent and his punch combo leaves a little to be desired, only a big punch followed by a bigger punch. His throw differs based on what direction you push the stick, forwards for a very damaging headbutt and backwards for a crowd-clearing suplex.

When Eddie’s special bar is full, he pulls a gun from his pocket and laughs evilly, while pointing it at his own head. He then spins, firing it in six randomly determined directions. If you hit enough targets, words will appear on the screen. We cover this at the end of the FAQ.

1.6 Secret Characters

Pyramid Head

POWER: *****
SPEED: **
SPECIAL: *****

To play as Pyramid Head, turn your PS2 or the arcade cabinet upside down.

The bad dude behind it all, Pyramid Head is one hell of a character. All his moves are good, as you’d expect, and he can dish out more damage than any other character. He’s a little slower than Eddie, not that it matters. He wears a fancy suit, top hat and monocle. When he dies, his respawn animation begins with a giant sword coming from the top of the screen and sticking in the ground, then he surfs down the side, hands out. He hops off and lands on the ground, the sword shrinking down to become his Great Knife, which he wields.

All his basic moves do HUGE damage, being broad swings of the Great Knife. He cannot combo, not that he cares. His throw involves picking up an enemy and holding them in front of himself, before he headbutts them six times. Then he kisses them and tosses them away.

Pyramid Head’s special causes hatches on either side of his head to open up, from which machine guns and missiles fire. He does this for a few seconds, hitting everything on screen, before a nuclear missile launches from the top of his head, before coming down and blowing up the entire screen. The background is frequently leveled during this attack.

Dog

To play as the Dog, plug a Gamecube controller into your PS2 or arcade cabinet.

POWER: **
SPEED: *****
SPECIAL: *****

The omnipresent Dog is now a playable character, but cannot be put on the same team as Eddie. If a player selects the Dog, Eddie is immediately unselected. When Dog is selected, Eddie cannot be selected. Still, this cute little pooch is worth it, though, since he’s the fastest character in the game.

Dog’s combos are a bit strange, since his standard attack is to bite the heels of his enemies. After he’s latched on, he’ll stay there for a second, with arrows coming out of him showing which directions he can climb in. Push one of those directions and a button fast enough and he’ll climb up the badguy, biting as he goes. When you either miss a button press or run out of badguy, he’ll fly off or get thrown off for some damage. Dog is a difficult character to use, but he hits fast and frequently.

For his super, Dog throws his head back and howls and a bank of computers land in front of him. He pushes buttons rapidly and it cuts to an orbiting satellite, which fires a laser, destroying everything onscreen. Like Pyramid Head’s special, it also destroys the terrain and kills everything onscreen, taking off about 30% of most boss’s health.

2.1 Levels

Here we’ll be looking at the game’s four levels, including where the hidden items are.

2.2 Apartment Block World

JAMES: Wow, the streets had really gone to ruin. Look at all these loiterers.

ANGELA: They’re disgusting!

EDDIE: *burps* Doesn’t look too bad to me.

ANGELA: You’re disgusting too.

EDDIE: Hey, c’mon! I was just kidding!

JAMES: Let’s raise some hell, guys.

You start out on the streets in this level and there’s some straightjacket zombies straight ahead to bust out some moves on. Get used to the controls, since they’re all you’re gonna get, and don’t waste your supers. When you reach the dead body surrounded by paper, knock it out of the way to find a 1-up.

Later, when you’re almost at the end of the streets, hold up to go through one of the doors. This takes you to Silent Heaven, where Maria is dancing on a pole. If you move up to her, she’ll kiss your character and restore their health. Give it a try, but watch out for the mannequins here.

About halfway through the level you’re go through a wall and find yourself in an apartment block. Get the wooden plank and fried chicken here before continuing on to meet your first leg mannequin. These guys are a bit faster than the straight jacket zombies, but go down after one or two hits. A good trick is to finish off the close-up ones before you move to the others. This is a short level and eventually you’ll come to a door. When you go to open it, Pyramid Head bursts through, knocking down your characters.

PYRAMID HEAD: Hey there, partners. Glad you could make it.

JAMES: Pyramid Head!

PYRAMID HEAD: The one and only. I thought I’d give you a taste of my power before things get nasty!

Pyramid Head comes at you wide, arcing swings which you have to jump over and vertical swings which you can step out of the way of. Don’t try to get behind him or he’ll grab you. The fastest way to do this fight is to wait for him to swing, then run in and deliver a combo. He’s not difficult and will go down fast.

PYRAMID HEAD: Guh… Guh… You win this time!

EDDIE: Pow, sucker! You got served!

After this, the game gives you your score and a 1-up. On to level 2!

2.3 Hospital World

ANGELA: I hate hospitals!

EDDIE: Not me! I love nurses. Those little outfits they wear are so hot.

NURSE: GWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAR!

EDDIE: Gah!

JAMES: Looks like you won’t be staying in this hospital, Eddie.

EDDIE: Yikes!

Hospital World brings the nurses to the mix, who can take a good beating and dish one out, too. Watch out when you get close to them, if you stand near a nurse for too long, she’ll break you down but fast. Most of them have some sort of melee weapon like a plank of wood or a pipe, so if you can knock a nurse down early on, it’s usually pretty easy to grab the weapon and take the rest of them down it. Don’t get caught in a corner, though, or you can kiss your life goodbye as they take you apart. If there a lot of nurses onscreen just move away and try to use a crowd-clearing move, like Eddie’s.

When you get to the elevator, get ready for a long fight in which straight-jacket zombies and nurses leap down from the ceiling to fight you. During this fight you’ll be asked questions and can hit buttons on the walls to make fried chicken and weapons fall down. Get them all right and a 1-UP drops. The elevator breaks on the top floor, so take the stairs to the roof where you run into…

PYRAMID HEAD: Lovely view isn’t it?

JAMES: Pyramid, huh? Shoulda known you’ve turn up.

PYRAMID HEAD: Where’s everybody going?

JAMES: You’re going off this building!

James runs forward and elbows Pyramid Head off the side of the building. He falls, screaming. Then, he reappears, riding on top of a Hind.

PYRAMID HEAD: You’re a maniac! Why’d you hit me?

JAMES: Hah! Sorry about that.

EDDIE: Have I gone nuts or is he riding a Hind?

ANGELA: Enough with the bad jokes. Let’s fight!

Pyramid Head is riding a Hind. At first, it fires a sweep of machine-gun bullets over the roof, before he climbs inside and rides it back and forth over the roof, firing waves of bullets. Just look for when they start hitting and either jump them or move out of the way. Angela is great for this fight since her Super is the only one that can hit the Hind.

After a while, Pyramid Head will start firing twice as many bullets, so just keep dodging. Occasionally he’ll hover over the roof and you can get him with jumpkicks or James’s super if you aim it right. Eddie is pretty useless here, sorry. Eventually, PH goes down.

PYRAMID HEAD: See you next week!

JAMES: Whew, that was too close.

A helicopter flies over the hospital.

JAMES: L-Laura?

LAURA: You losers need a lift?

ANGELA: Hey now, there’s no need to be rude.

James, Angela and Eddie grab onto the rail, taking them to level 3.

2.4 Labyrinth World

EDDIE: I got a bad feeling about this.

ANGELA: Eww, there’s water everywhere.

JAMES: We’re close to Mary. I can feel it.

You’ll be at odds with this place at first, what with straight-jacket zombies coming up out of the water and Doormen making their first appearance. Occasionally tentacles will come up out of the ground, so be on your guard. The Doormen are the main problem, since it’s almost impossible to cause a knockdown on them and they’ll happily wait for your combo to finish before they chow down on you. Keep to flykicks if there’s space for them. This is a short level, but only because the boss is so difficult.

You come into a freezer-like place where the Boss of the level is waiting for you.

JAMES: Eddie! I’m seeing double!

EDDIE: Wow, it’s ME?

E-D-E: Terminate the humans! Destroy all life!

Angela: I don’t like this new guy. Eddie, who is he?

EDDIE: No idea, but I don’t like him either.

E-D-E: Activating violence protocols. Beginning countdown, 3, 2, 1.

JAMES: GET DOWN!

E-D-E is similar enough to Eddie, but better in a lot of ways. He has a laser cannon which reaches the entire length of the screen and will kill you in one hit if you don’t get out of the way, as well as a devastating spinning clothesline. Just whatever you do, STAY OUT OF HIS WAY. Try to approach him from the sides if you can, otherwise keep back and use your specials to take down this evil robot. You’ll get beat up pretty bad, but if you tough it out and put in lots of coins, he’ll go down. Just stay cool and don’t make too many mistakes.

JAMES: He’s gonna blow!

Everyone dives for cover.

ANGELA: He blew the wall down.

EDDIE: Smells good. What’s for dinner?

2.5 Hotel World

JAMES: Is this our special place, Mary?

EDDIE: Quit yer yapping, I can barely hear myself think over you.

JAMES: You’re really irritating, you know that, Eddie?

ANGELA: For me, it’s always like this.

This level begins with an easy sailing minigame. Just move the boat up and down to collect the coins. The number of coins you get determines what you win at the end.

You get hit hard right from the start here, as Doormen, Straight Jacket zombies and Mannequins all come at you at once. Just get stuck into them and don’t let up, Eddie’s special is really helpful for crowd control here. When they’re all dead, punch the paintings to get power-ups and a pistol, before going up the stairs and doing some more fighting. You’ll be getting pretty good at it by now, we think.

This level has two bosses and you’ll fight the first one on the top floor of the Hotel.

JAMES: Pyramid Head! Not you again!

EDDIE: Pyramid Head! Not you again!

JAMES AND EDDIE: Wait, what did you just say?

PYRAMID HEAD 1: What can I say, I’ve been overeating lately. Now there’s enough of me for two.

PYRAMID HEAD 2: We decided to expand the family. And I must say, you’re looking damn handsome today, sexy.

PYRAMID HEAD 1: Right back atcha, buddy. Let’s head to a bar after this and stare lovingly into each other’s eyes.

ANGELA: Excuse me.

PYRAMID HEAD 2: Now there’s an idea. You know how I like my drinks.

Angela: EXCUSE ME!

PYRAMID HEAD 1 AND 2: What?

Angela: That can wait until AFTER we’ve kicked your ass. Both of them.

MARIA: HEY! GET ME DOWN FROM HERE!

This fight is pretty similar to the fight with Pyramid Head in level 1, except, well, now there’s two of them. Pair off with one and keep him busy, getting your buddy to take the flak from the other. If you’re playing by yourself, well, good luck, you’ll want to play as Eddie so you can at least take the beating they’re about to deal out to you.

There are two differences, though. If Pyramid Head gets you in a throw, the other Pyramid Head will teleport to his location and they’ll both stamp their feet as they each headbutt you six times, before they skewer you on their matching spears. In addition to being painful to watch it’s an instant kill move on your character, so don’t let them grab you. Simple as that.

A couple of times throughout the fight, both Pyramid Heads will move to opposite sides of the screen and run inwards, passing each other. They’ll move up and down, trying to “tag” characters and they’ll do it three times. Anyone they touch is going to lose about 80% of their life as one Pyramid Head grabs you and the other moves to lower his head and bring it straight through your body, goring you. The other will then spear you, before you’re thrown across the screen. They stop doing this when one of them is dead, thankfully, so wear one of them down as fast as possible.

However, the remaining one has an ace up his sleeve and will try to move towards Maria. If he touches her, he either regains health up to full or the other Pyramid Head will get up again with a little bit of life. Try not to let this happen by not letting them touch her.

MARIA: Wow, thanks for getting me down from there! I thought I was a goner!

JAMES: Where’s Mary?

MARIA: She’s upstairs! But…

JAMES: What is it, Maria?

EDDIE: Who cares? We can take it, whatever it is!

ANGELA: Yeah, that’s right. Let’s go, James!

MARIA: Fine, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Maria restores everyone to full health and then you head out to the staircase, the final area. Enemies are thick as fog here and you’ll have to fight for every inch, but if you’ve made it this far you shouldn’t have a problem. Get to the top and Mary is waiting for you.

MARY: Sup.

JAMES: Sup.

Mary turns into a screaming, shivering, squealing, upside down cage monster with giant bats and a huge fucking tail.

JAMES: …Okay.

EDDIE: Holy BALLS.

ANGELA: I did not see that coming.

JAMES: Die monster, you don’t belong in this world!

Mary fights similarly to the Hind battle with Pyramid Head, but she moves slower and her attacks do vastly more damage. She’ll rock around the sky, firing beams of bats and cackling maniacally. If you time it right you can destroy the bats and they’ll drop fried chicken, but you need to focus your attacks on her. Three of James’s jumpkicks will drop her to the ground at which point you need to hit her with something powerful, like a throw, since only one attack can hit her before she flies off again. Angela’s Super is perfect for this fight, James and Eddie less-so, so let the ladies do their thing. If you’re playing as James you can still knock her down and if you’re playing as Eddie, deal the big damage by suplexing her whenever she falls down. Every character has an important role in this fight, so play to your strengths.

Eventually, her cage will slam to the ground, but it’s not over yet.

MARY: James… James… James…

James plunges a sword into her. She twitches and lays still.

JAMES: Whew, it’s done, time to…

Evil music starts to play and the ground starts to rumble. James falls back, stunned.

ANGELA: What’s going on?

EDDIE: It’s something big…

A giant figure begins to emerge from the floor, supporting Mary’s body. It’s almost like a t-rex, but alien, too. Mary’s cage is supported on the end of a long neck made of balls. It begins to step back and forth and breathe flaming laser rings.

MARY MONSTER: BWOOOOOOORGH!

JAMES: :O

The Mary Monster is one heck of a fight and you will die. A lot. Just persevere and do as many hits to her legs as you can, while avoiding her laser beams and kicks, as well as the straight-jacket zombies that leap onscreen. If you can pull it off, uppercutting a straight-jacket zombie into her does a lot of damage. She’ll start throwing fire after a while, but you’re nearly there. She doesn’t fight for long before she turns to dust.

JAMES: Whew, I’m glad that’s over.

EDDIE: Uh, what’s that timer over the screen?

ANGELA: 2:58 until detonation…?

JAMES: Oh shit.

This last part is easy. Just run and run and run and you’ll eventually race out of the town with explosions going off behind you. Now you can sit back and watch the credits roll!

Good work, you’ve beaten Silent Fight 2. Now there’s no reason to play any of the other Silent Fight games, since none of them are as good or as hotly debated over the internet.

3.1 Pickups!

Fried chicken: Restores ¾ health.

Plank of wood: Augments your melee attacks.

Steel pipe: REALLY augments your melee attacks. Get these off of nurses.

Chainsaw: Just the thing for dicing up bad guys.

Pistol: Works a treat, but only has 10 shots.

Shotgun: Even better, but only has 6 shots.

1-UP: Little heads resembling the characters. Get them for an extra chance.

3.2 Eddie’s Special

The number of enemies you hit with Eddie’s special makes different things happen. Here are the ones we’ve discovered.

Hit four enemies: The words “A corpse can’t laugh” appear over the heads of those shot.

Hit five enemies: The words, “Eddie, have you gone nuts?” appear over the heads of the enemies. Eddie’s attacks will do more damage for a short amount of time.

Hit six enemies: The words, “I’ll kill ‘em! Just like that!” appear over the heads of enemies shot. This deals double damage.

Hit seven enemies: The words, “Killing a person ain’t no big deal” appear over the heads of the enemies. All enemies hit by this attack die, except for bosses.

Hit eight enemies: Same as usual. “Just put the gun to their head, pow.” This makes all enemies hit explode, dealing damage to enemies around them.

3.3 Strategy

Enemies will come at you in waves, so try to keep them away. The trick is to keep badguys back until you can line up a combo just right, since when you enter most combos, you become invincible. A combo that hits one badguy and causes a knockdown will carry through into the next badguy and every successive hit does more damage, so put weak enemies at the front and strong enemies at the back of your chain. If you’re stuck in a corner, you can crowd-clear by throwing, unless you’re Angela in which case the only way out is to use your special. Angela should never get cornered.
