Your wifey says you have my #. Call me if you want the best and easiest routes to Target or good/cheap restaurants. My weekend, is currently rather open.
Let me know how I can help, if at all.
Yes 101 is far more beautiful even if it adds a good hour and a half to the drive.
Oh, and you will learn one valuable lesson soon-- people from LA and other places call freeways THE, but in the Bay Area, they are just referred to by the number. When I moved to LA, it astonished me everything was THE 5, THE 60, THE 405. Moved back here and my friends were all, "It's *101* not THE 101 for Christ's Sake!!"
By the way, 101 is also known as the Bayshore Freeway. And 880 is a NIGHTMARE at ALL times, so avoid it at all costs. I mean, mid-day, middle of the night-- always. It's in the East Bay. If you go exploring, check traffic before hand to make sure there isn't a usual backup or usual accident.
So far I've been relying heavily on the web and a GPS widget to find my way around. It's more or less worked so far. Thanks so much for your offer; I'm sure we'll need lots of help from lots of people over the next couple of weeks. I think today is going to be devoted to settling in and finding all the other little bits and pieces we need to make this place liveable. There's a lot up in the air, though, so we may wind up calling at random times.
I picked up on the "the" thing a while back. Norcal people also say "hella", so you have no room to criticize. I think the silliest thing are Tucsonans who call THE 10 "the Interstate". It's not like there's only one. It's not like there's only one in Tucson.
So noted about freeway names ("THE Bayshore Freeway"?) and 880 traffic. I guess it wouldn't do to call it the Ventura Freeway.
