Exit Strategy

Jan 07, 2009 19:05

As per my previous post, I've made a local copy of my journal with ljArchive, and also reposted everything on InsaneJournal under the same username. If LJ suddenly dies a horrible death I can be found there. If anybody wants to keep in touch via other means and I don't already have your info, please leave a comment. They will be screened ( Read more... )

ljArchive doesn't work on Macs, but I did find a program called Antennapedia that works on Macs and can move your posts from LJ to an LJ clone like InsaneJournal. It doesn't save comments, though.

What format does ljArchive save in? I have a PC that I could use to back up the lj and then move to my external..then to my mac???Thanks for being brilliant, it is appreciated!

It uses its own format. It follows some conventions that might theoretically allow other programs to use it, but I don't know of any that would. It's also able to export to HTML files that you could read in a browser, but that loses some of the nice searching and indexing functionality that you would otherwise get within ljArchive. In my poking around I've seen a lot of grumbling about the lack of backup options for the Mac.

Eh? But I just found you! I looked for the Mrs. but couldn't find her.. I've never blogged here before...I'm over on blogger. I registered here forever ago but never got used to the format. I suppose I will go look for you over on InsaneJournal...

Nah, this is my regular journal. There was a bit of worry recently that LiveJournal might go under, so I backed things up over there. The Mrs. actually decided to move on from LJ a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think she's blogging right now. Facebook is probably her biggest online presence.
