and i haven't heard a single good thing about SAIC, to be honest. it's REALLY expensive, and all my teachers have said that they emphasize making their students look like artists instead of giving them the actual skills to do well.
right now i'm just in a community college, but as a result we get a ton of people who've dropped out of "real" college, and according to my teachers (3 separate teachers! asked separately!), the people who've come from SAIC have had a really snobby "art school mentality" and haven't had any skills to match. and my painting teacher (who is in galleries and sells his paintings for $10k+) says that the people who DO graduate from SAIC think the school's name carries so much weight that they can just walk into a gallery with their degree and get a show.
i'm going to MIAD next year, in milwaukee! but i think you're getting into a grad program, and MIAD doesn't have one :/
Right now I'm going into my first year at RISD -- if you have questions about the app process or anything in general, don't hesitate to ask! :) I freaked out about it enough to gain a pretty decent understanding of the school, lol.
Yes, I'm an out-of-state student. Financial aid is shit, so even with scholarships I pay 35 grand a year :( I didn't officially declare a major yet, but that's what foundation art is for -- exploring your options. I think I'm going to go into graphic design, but it may change if I find something else I enjoy more.
