I was claiming JSA when I came back from my work placement in Japan while I was looking for a job. I was still paying my rent and bills out of my own money (read: overdraft) and I had about a fiver a week spending money. It was a toss-up between buying travel to get to work, or buying food, so I had to rely on other people's generosity to eat. It's really fucking harsh living from hand to mouth like that and I did it for a long time, fuck anyone who says otherwise, I'd like to see them trying to do the same. xxx

The worst thing is when people go "oh but you've got so much time, I'd love to have all that time." You can have all the time in the world, but if everyone you know is at work, and you can't afford to go anywhere or do anything, and going to the supermarket is an elaborate exercise in mental arithmatic, much good may it do you.

people only say that because they are unhappy and need a break. I have been on JSA too and its total shyt. I also work....which sends me mental sometimes and I become envious of people on benefits and wish I could have a break. Then I pinch myself and think 'the grass is always greener...etc etc'.

It really is the people who milk the system that make the people who actually need it look bad. Unemployment can happen to anyone and its not pretty or good for mental well being. I know of people who do cash in hand and claim all sorts of benefits and are better off then me which PISSES ME OFF as I am paying for it. I have known some people to get £1200 housing plus £200 odd a week because they pretended they needed disability allowance and then rented off their other half (who owned the flat) so the money for the rent went straight in their bank accounts. BAH.
