I think maybe rather than going back and getting the message right you should go back and consider whether your message is even necessary or appropriate.
Some of us actually come from states that were originally red states so your tough love trip is pretty over generalized and actually throws salt on a huge and fresh emotional gash, and is an insult to people that may have busted their ass fighting this. If you feel this message of tours is still important than perhaps you should give it some time first.
Sorry about the salt on a fresh wound. It takes a while before it stops feeling like that. I think it took me a month or so before I stopped dwelling on it when it happened in my state in 2004.
I don't dwell on the emotional aspect of political battles anymore. It's just one fight after the next. As soon as one is over, I want to figure out what went wrong and go on to the next fight.
I'm one of those who has and will fight for gay rights including gay marriage but I think many people are turned off by the fact gay marriage is being pushed as the end-all-be-all issue when the fact is we have far more important issues in the gay community that need addressing. It would be different if said other issues were being pushed as heavily as well and multiple fronts were being fought but that isn't the case and that's what's costing us in my opinion.
I'll be posting on this tomorrow and weighing in more detail.

And without emotion, there would be no call to action and no reason to fight.
