We didn't go. I guessed that if we had, I would have felt the emotion that I sometimes did when I first started going to Pride, without all the debauchery that went along with it.

I think a lot of people just didn't think it would pass, and I think an even larger number didn't realize how angry they'd be when it did.
But, yeah, it would have been nice if we'd found this outrage when the proposition was qualified for the ballot. In the end maybe this is just the spark we needed. The debate went from California and spread it to the entire country. That might be worth the temporary setback.

It was a miscalculation, of course.
But when Prop 8 first was introduced, it was VERY far behind and stayed that way. Then a bunch of out of state money came in for TV ads and turned the tide in the last few weeks. It all happened rather quickly. I saw the polls, but truthfully even though I was out at rallies up until the election, in my heart, I still thought it would fail. I was pretty crushed, as were a lot of people, when it passed.
I think don't think we believed it would happen.
We've lived in a pretty gay-friendly bubble here in California for a very long time. We sadly needed that to wake ourselves up. What's come out since has been amazing though.
