My cat died today. Rogue was 19 years old. I was able to hold her as she passed. Hopefully I helped her along in her journey.

I think she died of a broken heart.

My daughter's cat Meeko died just one week ago. They've never really known a life without each other.

Two in a week. That's hard. At least they were both WELL loved and spoiled

Thanks Jill. I guess it just goes to show that even cats can die of a broken heart. Just a week before Meeko died she was still biting your fingers off to get a pringle. She probably doesn't remember a life without him and now they're together again.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am trying to help my own brood come to grips with the knowledge that their "human dad" isn't coming home. The three oldest ones stare at the door and every time they hear the car- they appear in the wondow. poor guys- he had them for almost a decade before HE passed away.(It's still less than a month since he passed and it is still very raw- the boys take no notice of me except when I wear a robe or something that smells like Steve- then they are all over me until they figure out who I am.) They give me a lick as if to say "Sorry ma, you aren't him" and walk away.

I truly believe that animals mourn. I think Rogue's heart was broken. Thank you for sharing that.

I've watched animals grieve to death- my grandfather's dogs certainly did and these poor boys certainly are grieving. The younger cats(petit-chat, Mercury and Bodi)seem to have moved on and adopted other humans in the house. Loki curls up with me at night(and one plus from the flood- I salvaged the bed and most of Steve's clothes. I haven't had the emotional strength to sort through everything yet.) and sleeps on Steve's side of the bed.

Hang in there- everyone tells me it gets easier with time- but right now I am seriously doubting it
