He slipped into the clearing quietly while Woody spoke, and one corner of his mouth curled upwards into a dry half-smile at the comment about Cuthbert. "Now, there's a ringing endorsement. Are you so flattering about all your friends, Woody?"

Whistling between his teeth, he slung the sack he was carrying over the fence, vaulting after it. "I brought some decent targets," he announced, reaching into the sack and pulling out several flat wooden discs, about a span wide, and tooled with neat, concentric circles. "Hundred paces suit you for a starting distance?"

He shrugged. "Search me, mate. I'm the one who has pretty much no experience, after all. Ey, Joshua, you know how to shoot too?"
