Meme I took from pooh_collector:

Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on ( Read more... )

Not a SW fanatic, so not judging, but Episode I is rarely a favorite. Kinda bold choice! ;-)

Pan's Labyrinth truly scared me to the bones.

It came out when I was nine and it was a FORMATIVE INFLUENCE. I spent that entire summer re-reading the novelization of the movie and pretending to be a Jedi (preferably Qui-Gon's apprentice.) I wrote NOVELS in my head about my Jedi adventures. *clings to this movie with all my heart*

(Qui-Gon is still the best Jedi.)

Hee yes, I agree Jedis are cool!
(I may allegedly pretend I'm a Jedi each time I pass through automatic doors in the subway...)

My own preference would go to Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor edition), though I've always wanted Mace Windu's purple saber. :-)

I was a few years older, but I remember being amazed by the craziness surrounding the release. Like US fans coming to France and waiting in lines days in advance because we had a release 2 days earlier than the US (we release films on wednesdays instead of fridays like US or UK). That kind of baffled me at the time...

You have two of my favorite books on this list, V for Vendetta and Howl's Moving Castle, but I've never seen either movie.

I was too old for Phantom Menace (by decades)- but I'll grant that Qui-Gon was wonderful.

Howl's Moving Castle is very different as book and movie. (I prefer the movie, but my gf says I'm wrong.) Haven't read V as a graphic novel, but the movie is really great!

I think I was the perfect age for Phantom Menace :D Also because I then went straight to the Jedi Apprentice books, which are EXCELLENT and written for something like that age group.

I could have put any of Miyazaki's movies on my list, I went with Spirited Away because the imagery is so visceral, though it was a close tie with The Wind Rises.

Heck, I probably could have made an all Miyazaki list.

All of his movies are AMAZING, I agree. (Haven't seen Wind Rises yet!) I think Spirited Away would be my second pick, and then Nausicca. Which reminds me I should re-read the Nausicca manga...

I would love for you to expand on why you picked these movies, if you don't mind :)
