i actually was reading a book once, an actual published novel, and i had to start copy editing it. i didn't get past page 100. there were that many typos.
I've left scathing reviews on Amazon about (supposedly) professionally written books that read no better than bad fan fiction, both grammatically and plot wise. I've read some pretty damn good fan fiction from writers that put some pros to shame.
i'm pretty sure that autocorrect has a firm hand in a lot of the modern spelling error twists. also, doing things like writing from iphones. we had a guy visit a chatroom the other day from a phone - couldn't understand him at *ALL*, and there was no clue to the 'problem' until i asked about autocorrect.
yet another reason why auto-correct and auto-spell features are not your friend. computers can be great dictionaries, but they're horrible spellers.
