The bad news in this election...

Congratulations, California. Slightly more than half of you are disgusting, hateful bigots who should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

Likewise for all the voters everywhere who, this election or in any other, voted to ban gay marriage or adoption by gay couples, or who agree with such bans in other states. You disgust me.

Yeah. So far this morning:

Bad news: Proposition 8 passed, Michael Crichton died.

Good news: Proposition 4 failed, Initiative 1000 passed, Gregoire is (again) the governor of Washington, and Indiana flipped. Oh, and the obvious, but we knew that last night. ^^

So, there's never going to be another idiotic, half-researched Michael Crichton potboiler again? And this is bad news because..?

Because I read and enjoyed some of his books? Because there were a lot of other people that loved every one of them?

as froborr pointed out recently, none of his friends live here anymore. But if you don't mind, I'm still gonna add one thing to your list.
VIRGINIA WENT BLUE!
My favorite piece of commentary on MSNBC all night was when they said that Virginia had a slight lean--"not even a lead"--towards McCain, but it was still too close to call as most Northern Virginia precincts hadn't reported yet.
Northern Virginia...really the only reason Kerry even stood a chance of getting our electoral votes in '04.
Northern Virginia...where we put extra emphasis on the "northern" so people forget that geographically, we're southerners.
Northern Virginia had't been counted yet... And it was too close to call. That's when I knew we'd done it.
SCORE!

Why just pick out California?

Also, isn't it more accurate to say "half of those who voted on the proposition" are ___________. ?

Best,

CHRIS

Beecause I expect that kind of bigotry and hate from the other states. California, however, has a gray record on civil rights, rather than black.

And yes, that would be more accurate, but on the other hand to be neutral or apathetic towards Prop 8 is to be effectively for it; saying "I don't care if people are treated as less than people" is equivalent to treating them as less than people, because if you saw them as people, you would care.

I presumed that was the reason for picking out California ( ... )

Well, thanks for insulting the state I live in as apparently being full of bigots and hate; insulting those of us who chose to live in other states even knowing the political climate, because it's easy to live among other liberals but living among conservatives actually requires talking to them; insulting those of us who voted AGAINST proposition 102 (the AZ version of CA's proposition 8) and are crushed that it passed for apparently not voting hard enough. It's really making it a much easier defeat that people who don't even live here are yelling at those of us who voted no.

An interesting discussion on Prop. 8 and those who voted for it. I haven't fact-checked all of this yet, but, if true, there seems to be interesting social and political issues at play.
