Walking a bit better...

So, I just took a short walk to the store, only to find that walking actually feels good on my back and leg, so perhaps that's good news? Sitting still hurts, though, which makes me think that any pressure on the nerve is what is causing the pain. I've been reading stuff on the 'net that says that putting pressure on the buttocks is not a great idea, so I'm now lying on my stomach.

Maggie, one of my ex-deputy heads, is in town with her husband visiting family and checking out the Christmas markets. She called a little while ago and I'm hoping to feel up to meeting them at some point during their visit before I leave for London.

In the meantime, I've been reading a very interesting book, 'There and Back Again: in the footsteps of JRR Tolkien,' and am online mapping out some possible future travelling sites based on different places the author visits in England that may have been the inspiration for the Professor's stories. Particularly interesting to me so far are the temple of Nodens at Lydney Park (which is, unfortunately, closed in the winter) and the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Cornwall is somewhere I've always wanted to visit, although perhaps not in the dead of winter. At any rate, I may look into renting a cottage for a long weekend at some point. Ya never know! There is even a town named after Froda, the Germanic king mentioned in 'Beowulf,' called North Frodingham. Froda may have been the inspiration for Frodo's name, as Tolkien said that Frodo's and Bilbo's names, 'in reality,' ended in 'a.' I'd forgotten that!

So, although I'm still bored, bored, bored and want to be back at work, I'm finding something to occupy myself with. I'm actually glad to have finally finished reading 'Mansfield Park' so that I could start this book, which has been sitting on my shelf since I bought it at 'Tolkien 2005.' I may even forgive the author for not liking the four hobbits, if I get some good holidays out of reading it!

Cheers, me dears!
