I went to okcupid to find people with whom I might be compatible and who are local, to test my theory that it's not so easy. I chatted with another who I thought would be really interesting - we were having a very meaningful conversation about healing and spirituality and the meaning of life. Of course it's not easy. It had better not be or someone owes me and explanation and some comp time.

I'm sure that guy had his own laundry basket full of issues and it's probably for the better that you can't get in contact with him again.

My wife actually had the EXACT same thing happen to her; she had met a guy off okcupid and was talking with him, having great conversations with him, and then suddenly he deleted his account. Some guy in Kentucky, I think. I wonder if it was the same person? She's had horrible luck on okcupid, I've actually had great luck (it's unfortunate she's straight; women -- at least at our age once the crazy settles down -- tend to be better behaved in dating than men in my experience)

Mostly I think the problem is that some people online are weasels, and are prone to snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I guess sitting at home being alone isn't as scary as actually meeting people. Or as fun, but, you have to have a backbone to recognize that.

Sorry this happened, but it's not always like that.
