First Lines Meme

Nov 18, 2011 22:12

I stole this idea from watchyouwalk--you take the first line(s) from fifteen of your favorite books, and see how many people can correctly give the names of the books without you supplying them. The first few are in order of how much I like them, but after about 8 they are just placed randomly.

Here we go....

1. Enna let the fire burn out.

2. I've never cared ( Read more... )

Aww, you're okay! Surprised you didn't know #4 though, that's one of the most famous lines in literature.

All right! Good for you! I'm surprised you knew of Enna Burning and The False Princess--not many people I know know those books. (Tidbit about TFP--the author is local, and she is the editor for the literary journal I'm going to get to intern for next semester. I'm looking forward to it--maybe I can get some writing tips? :D)

4 - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ?

That is the only one I recognize! Unfortunately, lol. You picked tricky ones! ;)

Yup! You got it!

Haha, a lot of the books I read are pretty obscure, unless you know me, read the same books as me, or are a Goodreads addict. If you want I'll message you the list of answers. Most of these books are listed on my Goodreads as well. :)

Well, four is obvious. It's P&P. Five, I'm guessing Leviathan by Scott Westerfield, though I haven't read it yet. Six sounds like something I want to read now, though I have no idea what it is. 8 is the absolutely awesome Howl's Moving Castle. But those are the only ones I know. I feel that you picked ones that are somewhat obscure. Either that, or we have completely different taste in books.

All three of your guesses are right! I figured #4 would be the easiest, since that's one of the most read books. Five is Leviathan, and #15 is actually the last in the trilogy, Goliath. You should definitely read the series--it's FANTASTIC. It's now my second favorite series.

I think I did pick pretty obscure books, but I did have one person get seven of the fifteen. I think #2 is the most obscure one on there, though--I haven't heard of anyone else who knows that book. If you want I can give you the names of the rest of the books.

And #6 is The False Princess by Eilis O'Neal. It's fantastic. It's by a local author who works for the literary journal I'm going to be interning with next semester. So I'm pretty much going to spend a lot of time working with her. Maybe I can get some writing tips? I hope so.

Leviathan is actually in my stack of books to read. No idea when I'll actually get around to reading it, but it's in the stack. What's your first favourite series, if it's your second?

I am curious about your list of books, so if youw ant to send them to me that'd be cool. I may know some. Sometimes I just don't remember first lines.

I have looked up the Flase Princess. It looks like it is fun times. Although, I need more books to read like I need a hole in the head...

My first favorite series is the Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale. Mostly because my favorite book ever is the second book in the series. Leviathan is a close second though.

Here's my list:

1. Enna Burning by Shannon Hale
2. Dante's Daughter by Kimberley Heuston (this is probably the most obscure book on this list.)
3. The Dream-Maker's Magic by Sharon Shinn
4. Pride and Prejudice
5. Leviathan
6. The False Princess
7. StarCrossed by Elizabeth C. Bunce (I'm reading the sequel now)
8. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
9. Fire Arrow by Edith Pattou
10. A Coal Miner's Bride (one of the Dear America Diaries)
11. Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith
12. Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn
13. Fire by Kristin Cashore
14. Dragon Quest by Donita K. Paul
15. Goliath by Scott Westerfeld
