They patrolled until they couldn't anymore, until he could feel the muscle of his shoulder start to seize up around the bullet, until his hand and right cheek were bare coltan. Covered in blood and dust, they limped, exhausted but full of adrenaline, back to the hotel.Back in the hotel, Allison put her guns down

He shrugged off the coat, still intact but bloodied, and stripped himself of the shirt. The bullet wound was still bleeding, but where he'd been grazed in that first encounter was already healed. "I'm fine," he said, voice rough with dust and shouting, "I'll heal." His hands were similarly searching her for signs of injury, getting her shirt off over her head.

The dust was in her nose, in her hair; when she moved her head, she could see it drift from her in clouds. Somehow it seemed to make sense to keep pulling clothes off; it's what her hands did as she urged his pants, down too, letting him deal with his boots as she dealt with her own. She had some scrapes, one on her forehead, some on her knees and elbows. But the blood had dried; she was fine too. For some reason now, though, she was short of breath and felt hot as she looked back up at his face.

Marcus watched her for a long minute, wondering vaguely if it mattered to her that she could see the metal, could touch it. But he bent and kissed her anyway, hand sliding up into her hair, tipping her head back so his mouth pressed down hard against hers. Her skin was hot against his chest belly and he kicked the boots off as he kissed her, feeding at her mouth.

It didn't matter; it never had. Allison looped her arms around Marcus's neck tight and kissed him back, small desperate noises getting lost there. She even went onto her toes to get closer.
