paper hearts in love.
j2, pg-13, 1000+ words.
summary: Do you like me? Yes or no?

For fatedcinderella because I said so. Also because she came up with the note idea. There's also that. But I have also discovered she is awesome, so yay!

------

It all started that time in between scenes where all Jared did was freakin’ stare at him. Which was working great to get him in Dean’s headspace; but he wasn’t sure that called for being irritated as fuck in real life.

So it was this train wreck pulled from the script of some half cocked and clichéd romantic comedy. Where whenever he looked away Jared would stare at him with these big huge moony eyes, but Jensen didn’t take the bait. This went on for about ten minutes before the level of irritating got too much for Jensen to handle.

So he snapped.

“Dude, if you’re trying some new creeper angle: it’s working. Cut it out!”

He was expecting some retarded Jared logic remark so it was really surprising when the big guy just blushed and shuffled away.

Huh. He didn’t think a guy of that height could shuffle.

Weird.

---

What was also weird?

Jared opening doors for him.

It was weird and offensive.

Despite his namesake, Jensen was definitely not a girl.

---

It got even weirder when Jared let him win at Madden later that night.

Jensen’s got his pride, but even he can admit that Jared’s some sort of scary ass Madden genius. Nobody lost against Jared at Madden.

Jensen was scared there was something wrong with the universe.

---

“Jen… what do you do when you’re into someone but they just don’t seem to get it?”

Jensen was sitting on the couch in his sweats, scratching his stomach and contemplating reaching for the remote when Jared assaulted him with his weird question.

He looked up with his eyebrow arched.

“Umm tell them?”

“Yeah… but I’m like 200% sure that if I tell this person out right they’ll have a panic attack, freak out and then hate me.”

“Wow, this girl sounds like a real doll.”

Jared smirked a little bit, and that was weird.

“Yeah but that’s what makes her endearing.”

“Well whatever get’s your boat floatin’ Padalecki.”

“Shut up you dick. Remember? Advice? I’m a pathetic loser?”

How could Jensen say no to that face? No really.

He wants to know how to say no to that face. Because no matter what he tries he can’t physically get the letter’s ‘N’ and ‘O’ past his lips when faced with Jared’s ‘I’m a pathetic loser with evil, evil hopelessly cute eyes’ face.

“I don’t know what to tell you man, the only advice I’ve got is tell her. Just maybe tone it down. You can be a bit intimidating at times. Don’t wanna scare the poor girl away with your over eager puppy crap. Reel it in.”

“Wow Jen, that was great advice. I don’t know how I ever lived without it.”

“I know. I’m a font of knowledge.”

---

The next day when Jensen finds a folded up piece of paper in his coat pocket that isn’t a reminder to pick up more beer and laundry detergent to himself, but instead is a flashback to the fourth grade?

It’s really weird.

Do you like me? Like, like me?
Circle yes or no.

Really, really weird.

As in he hopes Stacy Miller from the fourth grade isn’t stalking him and putting notes in his coat pockets kinda weird.

So he does the first thing that comes to mind.

He asks Jared about it.

“Dude, do you know who put this in my pocket? Because I really don’t want to think about what sort of crazy fan snuck into the house to put a note in my coat pocket if you don’t…”

He holds the aforementioned note in the air and waves it around to draw Jared’s attention.

Another weird thing happens. Jared blushes. Again. And splutters a bit like he’s lost for words which is an oddity of the universe because Jared Padalecki always has something to say. Unless…

Oh.

Oh.

OH!

Jared left him the note. Jared like likes him. In a ‘let’s be boyfriends!’ way. He likes him.

Huh.

Oddly, that doesn’t weird him out. Which is a first for the past couple days.

“I’m uh… just gonna… yeah.” And because Jensen is an idiot who hasn’t said anything, Jared ducks out of the room embarrassed and probably a little hurt.

Jensen’s an ass.

An ass who apparently had no idea Jared was into him even though now, now looking back the signs were obvious as freakin’ day. They live together for Christ’s sake!

He has to fix this.

Where the hell was a pen when you needed one?

---

So now Jensen’s sitting outside Jared’s bedroom trying to stuff the note with his ‘YES’ circled in horribly obvious bright red pen, under the crack of the door. But for some reason it isn’t really working.

Which is when the door flies open and there’s Jared, standing so tall Jensen has to crane his neck up to get a look at his face.

“Uh… hi..?” Jensen says awkwardly like he wasn’t just caught trying to shove a piece of notebook paper under his bedroom door.

“Hi.” Jared says back, a little guarded and Jensen really doesn’t know what to say so he just really clumsily shoves the note up into Jared’s face.

Jared frowns and turns to go back into his room, probably thinking Jensen’s making fun.

“No, Jay. Just, just look at it. Please?”

Jensen watched totally wrung out thinking that he blew it. He was actually really nervous that Jared was going to laugh at him.... which was weird because Jared was the one who gave him the note in the first place...

Wow, so this is what it was like for Stacy Miller in the fourth grade.

He suddenly really admires her for putting herself on the line like that as a ten year old.

Jared unfolded the note and the moment seemed to drag on as Jensen almost chewed through his lip worrying.

But it was all worth it in the end. Because seeing Jared’s face light up like that was pretty much the best thing in the entire world.

“Really?”

“Uh yeah…”

“Really really?”

Jensen rolled his eyes.

“Yes, Jared really really! Now hurry up and kiss me before I change my answer to no.”

Jared kissed him.

And it wasn’t weird.

It was perfect.

[end.]

So yeah, not exactly what I meant to write, but it's still cute. I think.
