I've been listening to a lot of the Explore Music podcasts lately and the host, Alan Cross, ends most of his interviews with the artists by asking them "if you had to get five albums for a 14 year old to introduce them to music, which five albums would you buy them

This seems like an impossible question. Has this fourteen year old been in a cave for all of his life? If so then I'd want to give a comprehensive overview of musical history and genres. There are clearly more than five genres of music in the world, not to mention eras, this would clearly be impossible to do with five albums. Maybe five superb mixtapes. Maybe.

And if it's just a regular fourteen year old then what exactly is it you're supposed to be introducing them to?

This would be a lot easier if the question was: Choose five albums that I Pat should listen to, if he hasn't already. Except that wasn't a question.
