Pope Benedict XVI has said that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behaviour is just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.

In fairness that statement probably does more to damage the reputation of the church than it does to suppress gays.

Not that I don't feel sorry the gays who DO take catholicism seriously, but at the same time isn't it about time we all consigned religious rubbish to dustbin of history?
