Okay, even I knew a lot of artists/bands lip sync on Saturday Night Live. The songs are almost, always sounding like the albums/radio songs and no-one ever gets the timing right but thank god for the big fuck up last evening on SNL. Of course, I remember when the Pogues appeared and Shane McGowan was so falling-down drunk he couldn't remember the lyrics... and the time 10,000 Maniacs were on and someone had told Natalie Merchant that she looked too stiff and should try and dance while singing, but apparently hadn't asked her if she could dance. By the second number she was back to just swaying at the mike stand. ;)

I'm surprised this thing hasn't been seen more often, I guess that's one of the benefits of SNL (I'm thinking about the LIVE part).

I once went to a taping of "The Mike Bullard Show" (which is the Toronto know-off of Letterman) and the musical guest, some sub-par surburban chick band, missed their cue for the lip synching - and so the whole thing had to be re-taped.

I had the pleasure of seeing it last night and I was like woah ohmigod! Ashlee sucks for real! (hehehe) She really isnt that great at singing as I was able to witness on AOL Sessions live performance. She is enhanced like no other. Her real ability is average. At best.

I've always had my doubts about live performances on TV. It goes way up the food chain, I've seen performances on stuff like the academy awards or the VMA on MTV where you just KNOW that they must be lip syncing.
