Although it is for the sake of security, I would be annoyed all to hell if I had to type in my password every time I tried to do something "data-altering" on a site, unless that was a very, very rare occasion.

Oh yes, I agree with that.

Part two of the website implementation would have involved some sort of rolling session token for each page visit.

I haven't fully fleshed out the idea of it yet, but yes, definitely wouldn't want to be lumped with having to enter my password constantly either :)
