ZOMG

As ever, it has been forever since I posted, but omg I HAVE to share this. Even if it is a little self-...something. But who else to tell how great you are than THE ENTIRE INTERNET?

Anyway, I've been teaching this year, for the first time--in the fall I taught intro Hittite, and this quarter it's been Hittite lit in translation, to 13 undergrads who ( Read more... )

I have NO DOUBT it is your enthusiasm that's winning them over. Your enthusiasm has always ignited interest in others. I remember how you fascinated my friends (one in particular) at that party!

Are you a doctoral candidate at this point? Believe it or not, I may have a TV producer who would be interested in interviewing you for a documentary at some point.

Awww, thanks! I am totally blushing right now. But the Hittites are, in fact, THAT FASCINATING! For real!

Annnnd, no, not yet! At the moment, I am planning to propose in the fall--I have to take comprehensive exams this spring, but I'm pretty sure I already have a topic, and I'm working on it a little bit even right now (there's this Hittite cult practitioner called the Old Woman--they do medicine, magic, divination, foreign-language recitation, and are basically badass. I have no idea why no one has done a dissertation on them before, but I AM CALLING DIBS) so fall seems reasonable. So, um, if the interview requires a candidate, not quite yet! sorry! (SLOW BUT STEADY: the PhD mantra.) But, WOW, thank you for thinking of me! <3

Anyway, ENTHUSIASM: IT WORKS, BITCHES.

It totally does! I have learned much more from a teacher who enjoyed her subject than I ever did from the ones who were just there to get a paycheck from a subject they knew. =/

Also, LJ needs a like button like FB. =) I think your whole subject is awesome.

Perhaps because my whole subject IS awesome?? THE HITTITES, THEY ARE THE BESTEST. I was actually thinking about festival texts just now, and how much I ADORE them (wacky clothes! wacky dances! wacky food!) and, just, MY LOVE. IT CANNOT BE CONTAINED.

So, um, I have the enthusiasm bit down! But really, who could help it, with such source material. ♥

I'm thrilled to hear you have another story in the works, since I loved At The Hour When We Are Trembling.

For vids, I hope you're still looking for suggestions (I got kind of sidetracked when I saw the request!)

Funny, easy to understand vids:
Stargate SG-1 [The Movie] Theatrical Trailer, SG-1
Supernatural's Flying Circus, Supernatural, sort of
Moving Right Along, Farscape, John & D'Argo, the ultimate buddy team
I Enjoy Being A Girl, multifandom

And two overviews that I think a Straight Dude might like:
Southside, Battlestar Galactica(2003)
Boom Boom Pow, Fringe

ZOMG, all of the vids! This is awesome. I had considered Boom Boom Pow, but not the rest of them! YAY, thank you!

And also, yay that you are looking forward to the story! And that you liked the John/Daniel, that always warms my heart to hear. I hope you also like Kirk and Spock, because there is going to be...lots of Kirk and Spock. \o/

And when I got home and looked at the vids I'd saved, I kicked myself for not suggesting Boys Wanna Be Her for BSG instead of Southside.

Yes, I am very much about the K/S in the new version of Trek, though I'll read Kirk/McCoy in reboot if it's well written. For some reason, likely having to do with falling for Trek at age 9 when it was in syndication, while I see the slash potential for K/S in the original series, I just don't generally read explicit fic about it.

Also, that compliment about your teaching is awesome! I was so focused on the vids that I forgot to tell you. I work with undergrads at a university, and I know how hard it can be to keep their attention focused.

You are awesome! You make the hittites personal. They are so long dead but they come alive through you. I don't know how *not* to be fascinated by that.

Vids, yay! I had two but other people recced them as well.
*goes off to check all the vid recs*
