But I'm working on things. I don't know, maybe giving something up would work better. I'm trying to do more every day than shuffle to work and then shuffle home and collapse. It is not easy. I've worn a shuffling rut into the snowbanks of my days because it's easier than picking up my feet and walking over the snow

I know what you mean. Walking is so much harder than shuffling. There are days when I would like nothing more than to shuffle- but I know shuffling one day just leads to a whole week of crawling- for me anyway.

Maybe this is more metaphorical than you meant. Ah well. I just meant that I could relate. I'm working on stuff too, as hard as I can.

If you want to go really metaphorical, the snow was so deep that there was usually one set of footprints along where the sidewalk used to be, but they were two feet deep and hundreds of people had walked in them. We were literally walking in the exact footsteps, the holes made in the snow with their feet, of the people who walked that particular sidewalk before us.

i love it. such a beautiful and great extended metaphor--you really have a talent for these things. :)

and i can relate, what with all the--what was it? three?--back to back snowstorms meaning that, even with the melting, there are still snowbanks nearly as tall as i am!

good luck m'dear. (and as an aside, thanks for the valentine!)
